Politics and Government of the Archrepublic
The Archrepublic of Vayinaod is governed under a three branch government. The Executive headed by the Archkonsul and his Konsulate, in conjunction with the Council of Seven who serves as the principal advisor on military matters. The legislative headed by the Storting, a parliament elected with 101 elected members in directly elected districts across the country, as well as the Council of Seven which formally serves as the upper house. Finally the judiciary is headed by the Supreme Judicial Council of Appeals who is the final say on all administrative, civil, and criminal court cases.
The Executive
The Archkonsul is directly elected by citizens of Vayinaod via the First Past the Post. The Archkonsul after his election appoints eight ministers to the Konsulate to assist and advise him in running the executive branch. The current Konsulate is composed as follows:
- Archkonsul: Kristian Nylund (Green)
- First Konsul (Armed Forces): Lorens Henningson (Moderates)
- Second Konsul (Treasury, Commerce): Erna Rundström (Green)
- Third Konsul (Judicial): Isak Stendahl (Moderate)
- High Representative of the Archrepublic (Foreign Affairs ; historically called the Fourth Konsul, the term fell out of use in the 1920s): Anne Eriksson (Moderate)
- Fifth Konsul (Environment, Fisheries, Culture, National Parks, Housing, Agriculture, Transportation ETC.):Fredrik Norling (Green)
- Sixth Konsul (Health, Welfare, Social Services, Labour): Michaela Blomgren (Green)
- Seventh Konsul(Immigration and Homeland Security): Folke Carlsson (Moderate)
- Eighth Konsul (National Intelligence Services): Vilmar Solberg (Moderate)
- Ninth Konsul (Science, Technology, Energy, Digital Development): Rakel Sorensdotter (Green)
The Councillor to the European Union and its chief representative, currently Carita Falk (Green), is not officially considered part of the Konsulate due it being a relatively new position. Informally, however, the Councillor often sits on Konsulate meetings and advises the Archkonsul directly. The Councillor is appointed by the Storting after an exhaustive ballot election. The Archkonsul has the power to in theory recall a Councillor but they can not remove them from office. As such, the Councillor is independent from the Konsulate but has a very close relationship. The First Konsul while elected alongside Archkonsul is considered part of the Konsulate and acts as the civil administrator for the Vayinaodic armed forces. The Konsulate and the Archkonsul serve five year terms together.
The Council of Six serves as the overarching commission for the military and is in command of the military only below the First Konsul and Archkonsul. The Council of Six also works to operate and facilitate the continued support of democracy in Vayinaod. The Council of Six is therefore integrated throughout the civil administration in a sort of symbiotic relationship. All members of the Council of Six are the respective head of their military branches, achieved through years of meritocratic selection. Typically the Council of Seven serves five year terms. The Council of Six retains administrative control of their forces, and utilizes the ArchCommand Structure for operational control.
Current composition of the Council of Seven:
- Commander of the Council: Andreas Schindler
- Vice Commander of the Council: Eduard Holt
- Chief of Naval Forces and Operations: Ava Hintzen
- Chief of Staff of the Air Forces : Theotman Svenson
- Chief of Military Intelligence: Theodor Ovesen
- Chief of Staff of the the Army: Oskar Mendel
The Legislature
The legislative branch of the Archrepublic is serviced by the Storting comprised of 461 seats. The Storting is directly elected by the people of the Archrepublic via the First Past the Post system, Currently the Storting is controlled by the Social Democrats in a coalition with the Free Greens and Progressives with a total of 338 seats. The Storting has a five year term, however, if the Archkonsul is unable to maintain a whats termed "positive relationship" with the Storting, an early election will be called for both. Typically this means if the Archkonsul cannot pass either a budget or foreign policy initiative with proper support in the Storting at least twice in a one week span.

History of the Archrepublic
The only currently recognized direct lineage of the Archrepublic is only traceable as far back as the early 10th century, various peoples have remained settled as far back as 9000 BC if current archaeological estimates are believed. These early peoples, often termed as Vetus-Uralics, are genetically dissimilar to the vast majority of Vayinaod's population today. The only genetic connections are found in the Uralic minority in Vayinaod; leading some academics to believe that the initial settlers remained but that after majority ethnic cleansing by Vayinaodic settlers the survivors were pushed out of the area to return later.
By ~1500 BC bronze was introduced into Vayinaod, and the first evidence of early Vayinaod peoples begins to appear. Most archaeologists agree that the early Vayinaodics used the bronze to their advantage over the Vetus-Uralics. Most remaining settlements point to first arrivals on the coast near Nyetthem slowly moving east along the coast before slowly moving inland. It is believed that these Vayinaodic people were sailors from Germanic tribes in northern Germany who were accustomed to sailing in the cold waters of the North. Their use of bronze and later iron gave them a distinct advantage over local groups and allowed for Vayinaodic domination. However, there was never a single entity controlling settled areas with various clans and tribes controlling their own local areas. Most estimates place the final settlements occurring at Elvsyen circa 150 BC. Current academics generally agree that by this point in time the final Vayinaodic tribes had migrated to the coastal areas of Vayinaodic, while migrating inland would take several more centuries no ingenious group would remain by 300 AD.
Vayinaodic legend has it that the first settlers at Nyetthem were lead by two great Chiefs of the same family who rode on the backs of Pegasi, these Chiefs followed the feathers of a Gyrfalcon who supposedly would nest on a crescent moon. This legend has been enshrined into the modern coat of arms of Vayinaod but remains little more than a folks tale, there is no real evidence to suggest that the two unnamed Chiefs ever existed.
Vayinaod would remain splintered, and in constant feudal strife until the integration of Raiding into Vayinaodic culture circa 900 AD based upon most accounts, as before this most burial tombs of chiefs were mostly bare and empty, following the integration of Raiding however vast treasures and riches were buried with the leaders and warriors who won them in battle. Vayinaodic raiders focused on local lands but instead on other nations; Scandinavia, northern Germany, and other regions in northern Europe were the most popular destinations for raiders, however trading is recorded as occurring as far south as Red Croatia. The consolidation of wealth and resources via raiding finally broke the stalemate between the various clans and tribes and by 989 AD, Harold Havic had used his wealth to secure control over most of modern day Vayinaod establishing the Havic Kingdom. Life under the Havic Dynasty is denoted as being particularly brutal in most remaining texts. The Havoc Kings, as they have been colloquially referred to as, would often flay self-described enemies alive with it being a common punishment for even the smallest of crimes.
When Fredrik Havic (1270-1309) was left unanswered on an increased levy for a personal raid by Erik I of Jaroldsberg he launched a campaign against the Elvrake Clans who answered Erik's calls to arms. This campaign lasted from 1306-1309 AD, and while was a multi-year civil war is referred to as the Red Winter for the amount of blood spilled. The war would constantly go back and forth for control of Vayinaod, the Battle of Falkor ended the war when Erik I slew Fredrik in one on one combat. Erik I called a grand council after killing the rest of the Havic dynasty later i 1309 to ensure that they would not bring ruin to Vayinaod again. The grand council unsurprisingly choose Erik I as the new king, but Erik himself declared himself the Arch-King of Vayinaod and claimed that the Kingship of all the positions below him as well. The Jaroldssen Dynasty would last from 1309 to 1689 before dying out. The Falcor family would take over thereafter until the end of the Arch-Kingdom.
Starting in 1751, the Arch-King began delegating more and more powers to his senior advisor the Archkonsul, however, these Archkonsuls soon abused their power to the point of financial ruin of Vayinaod after multiple failed attempts of establishing colonies in the new world. In 1769-1774 there was a series of bad harvests and harsh winters that began to hurt the common people. By 1778 there were full-scale riots over increased taxes and still nearly unaffordable food. The King began a series of basic reforms, including introducing an advisory Storting elected by the people to represent their views, and with a series of good harvests and an agreement to lower taxes over a five year period the monarchy was temporarily saved.
With the Age of Enlightenment in full bloom throughout the rest of Europe, a group named the Mountaineers, established themselves as a set of new thinkers and began to question the role of the monarchy. They published a news paper known as The Northern Inquirer still in circulation today based on a continued budget from their estates. In one of their writings, they wrote out the Codex of the Rights of Humanity and of Citizen. The ideals set forth in the publication over the right to life, liberty and the ability for one to set forward in creating their own lives while revolutionary went even beyond other European countries in that it believed all men and women deserved the rights prescribed in the document. Support for the Mountaineers continued to grow so King Wilhelm II began a series of additional reforms known as the Appeasement Reforms in 1787 where he gave up more of his powers to the Archkonsul and the Storting.
In 1792 King Wilhelm II decided to arrest the writers behind The Northern Inquirer for treason against the monarchy blaming them for the constant attacks on his power. While imprisoned at The Citadel one of the writers, Ralf Olson, managed to smuggle out one last written testament describing the injustice of his imprisonment and the conditions that he and his fellow countrymen faced. On July 8th, Ralf Olson was executed by beheading and the country erupted into chaos. This is known as the Common Revolution as most of the populace was in favor of removing the King at this point and joined into the effort. The King had managed to escape Nyetthem, the capital of the nation, moving to his ancestral home of Falkor as his center of operations. By late August, most of the country was in rebel hands, and with his life and that of his family on the line the King met with the leaders of the revolution and reached an agreement. He would abdicate the throne, and his family would be allowed to keep their lives and any lands not associated with the state itself. The Royal Family would be protected by the government and would actively work to ensure that they be in good condition. The Royal Family would not make any public claims to the thrones, however should the monarchy be reinstated, their bloodline would be called on first. This is known as the Falcon's Treaty.
The King, however, would be executed on the first day of the new year. On January 1st, 1793 the King was executed by beheading and the Archrepublic of Vayinaod was declared. This initial period is known as the first republic, the nation struggled with democracy at first, and how to protect the rights not afforded to them, but with an economic crisis as well as famine now once again facing the nation strong Oligarchs came into power by 1800. These Oligarchs would slowly subvert the power and rights of the people before declaring the Serene Republic of Vayinaod in 1834 and officially taking control of the nation. Now only men with lands could vote, and their vote would be weighted to the amount of taxes they would pay annually.
The Serene Republic, referred to as the False Republic in most textbooks, was shortlived as an army Lieutenant Ulrik Johnsson led an effort to remove the oligarchs. Referring back to the Codex of the Rights of Humanity and of Citizen, Johnsson under the pretense of protecting the rights of his fellow citizens attempted to kill the Oligarchs at their annual meeting detailing the various reports of the year by flooding the town where they were meeting. By destroying a dam holding back the River Marok, over 15,000 people died along side the Oligarchs. Johnsson was later tried and quietly executed supposedly, however no body was ever reported to be buried and most academics agree he was let go and started a new life. The military used this as a chance to take control of the country with little fighting, slowly over time democratic institutions were put in place over the next few years. Military influence on the Archrepublic continues to this day as instituionalized in the Council of Seven, formerly the Council of Five.
With democracy and universal suffrage reinstated, the country over the next few decades licked its wounds and attempted to finally instate equality for all. Universal public education for all was establishing by 1859 all the way through universities or various trade schools/apprenticeships. The nation slowly attempted to reintegrate itself into Europe over the course of a century, with some recessions every now and again as the only truly distressful situations. Capital punishment was abolished in 1908. Vayinaod made history by joining another nations in the stars by launching its first satellite on its own in 1978. In 2019, Vayinaod joined the European Union. Vayinaod is now a highly developed state, focused on the welfare of its citizens, however the military industrial complex remains highly integrated into the governing structure of the nation.
