Miraco Elections November 2015

  • Charles Martin: Bonjour tout le monde! I'm Charles Martin joining you today from TVM. Today our nation will elect a new government. We will be monitoring the results closely as they start coming in, we will also update you on the latest trends on Miracan social network Twitter. As it stands currently the incumbent Socialist Party is likely to win this elections as indicated by previous polls conducted. However the question remains whether or not we will see a change in our official opposition. Will the Conservative party be able to continue building up their momentum or will the Green Party remain in control of the opposition? As of now the polls have been open and are set to close at 10:00 PM Central European Time. We will continue to provide updates throughout the day including an exit poll later on in the day.

    .

  • Charles Martin: The polls have officially come to a close. We're now awaiting the results. In the meantime, let's have a look to see the current trends on Twitter.

    4. Marc Grenouille

    6. Marie La Pen

    Charles Martin: Well well well it seems that controversial National Front figurehead Marie La Pen is trending. Could she possibly win the elections tonight despite the poll results? Only time will tell, in the meantime it seems that the earliest results are coming out. Joining us from the Cote d'Azur province, we have Melanie Garneau. Over to you Melanie.

    Melanie Garneau: Merci Charles, I'm joining you tonight from the capital of the Cote d'Azur province Nice. The results are starting to be released right now, for the 55 seats in the region the results are as follows.

    • Socialist Party - 20 Seats
    • Conservative Party - 10 Seats
    • National Front - 1 Seat
    • Green Party - 24 Seats

    Melanie Garneau: A small victory for the Green Party with 24 seats, thought it appears that the PSM isn't far behind with 20 seats while the Tories and National Front trail behind at 10 and 1 seats respectively. Back to you Charles.

    Charles Martin: An unexpected turnout, though we can hardly say it's shocking. The Green party has maintained a stronghold in Southern Miraco for a while, still I must say I did not expect the Tories to do as well as they did, more likely I would've expected a turnout similar to the National Front. Next up, results are coming in from the Provence region. Take part of the conversation and share your thoughts via twitter. Our handle is @TVMNews

    • Charles Martin: Welcome back to TVM's election coverage. We've already seen the results come in from Cote d'Azur, now it's time to see the results from Provence. Joining us now is Le Nouvel Observateur correspondent Marie Guillaume from the city of Celle.

      Marie Guillaume: Bonjour Charles, I'm currently in Celle awaiting the results to come out. The province has 30 seats and is projected to be a stronghold for the PSM. In the meantime, we have some high profile tweets coming in from the United Kingdom. Prime Minister Hugh Robertson tweeted:

      @Number10UKGov: A mes amis du Parti conservateur en Miraco: grand travail dans le sud! #Progress

      Marie Guillaume: Another high profile tweet coming in from the UK is from Duchess of Kent Renata Klingenberg:

      @Renata_DuchessKent OMG, solid hold for the Greens! #GetSeriousAboutClimateChange #MirPoli

      Marie Guillaume: All and all it looks like an exciting race for Miraco. Now the results have come in and they are as follows:

      • Socialist Party - 12 Seats
      • Conservative Party - 5 Seats
      • National Front - 8 Seat
      • Green Party - 5 Seats

      Marie Guillaume: An unprecedented gain for the National Front gaining 8 seats, the second largest amount in the province. PSM continued their lead with 12 seats while the Tories and Greens both earned 5 seats. Back to you Charles.

      Charles Martin: Well I must say that was quite the shock, the National Front wasn't seen as a real contender for the race until now. It appears the PSM continues to dominate the number of seats though with slim margins. Could it be that Grenouille won't be able to succeed Clermont in the position of Prime Minister? Join us after the break for more results coming in from Marche and Champange.

    • Charles Martin: And we're back, and we must say Twitter has been exploding with buzz surrounding the elections. We have high profile tweets from various leaders showing support for the candidates vying to be Prime Minister this evening. Here are a few from Angeleter and the United Kingdom

      @scourtenaysdp:
      Best of luck to my friend @MarcGrenouille and the #PSM in Miraco's elections tonight #mirpoli
      @BarackObamaMP:
      @MarcGrenouille The Labour Party is with you in spirit. Hopefully our grassroots support will get you back in power #LabourMovement #SocialismWorks

      Charles Martin: And one very high profile tweet coming in from his holiness the Archbishop of Inquista himself!

      @Paul_Craticus:
      Miracans blessed with/chance to enact change tonight. Marie and the NF clearly the best way forward - but all leaders standing tonight will do great

      Charles Martin: Now onto the results from Marche and Champagne. Joining us this time is Adrien LeBlanc from the city of Marseille.

      Adrien LeBlanc: Hello from the city of Marseille, I'm very excited to announce the results this evening. There are 15 seats in the province of Marseille and 30 seats in Champagne. I will begin with the results from Marche:

      • Socialist Party - 2 Seats
      • Conservative Party - 9 Seats
      • National Front - 1 Seat
      • Green Party - 3 Seats

      Adrien LeBlanc: A sweeping win for the Conservative Part with 9 seats, the highest number of seats in the province by far. The Greens came in a distant second with 3 seats while the PSM and National Front came in with 2 and 1 seats respectively.

      Adrien LeBlanc: Now for the results from Champagne:

      • Socialist Party - 15 Seats
      • Conservative Party - 10 Seats
      • National Front - 2 Seat
      • Green Party - 3 Seats

      Adrien LeBlanc: A victory for the PSM with 15 seats! The Tories came in a close second with 10 seats while the National Front and Greens came in at 2 and 3 seats respectively. It seems that the odds may not be in favour of another Green official opposition, though only time will tell when the true race starts in the North. We will return shortly.

    • Charles Martin: Welcome back everyone, I'm Charles Martin for TVM News covering the Miraco elections. Our current seats awarded are as follows: 49 seats for the PSM, 34 seats for the tories thus far, 35 for Greens and 12 for the National Front. It appears to be a close race, a sentiment echoed by the Duxburian General William Reid who took to twitter to voice his views:

      @FiveStarReid

      #MIRPOLI too close for comfort. Need more fixers to turnout! #VoteEarlyandOften

      Charles Martin: Now let's hear the results from Languedoc and Savoy, joining us from Nîmes, we have David Delsarte.

      David Delsarte: Thank you Charles, the results for the province of Languedoc (which has 40 seats) have just come out and are as follows:

      • Socialist Party - 20 Seats
      • Conservative Party - 8 Seats
      • National Front - 2 Seat
      • Green Party - 10 Seats

      David Delsarte: A solid victory for the PSM with 20 seats! The remainder of seats are divided with 10 seats to the Greens, 8 to the Tories and 2 for the National Front. Before moving on to the results for Savoy, we just received a tweet from British pop icon Rita Ora who tweeted:

      @TheRealRitaOra:
      I normally don't get political, but one of my favourite countries is having elections, and hopefully it will stay red. The UK didn't get it right, but Miraco can #PSM #MirPoli

      David Delsarte: Now moving on to the results for Savoy with 20 seats. The results are as follows:

      • Socialist Party - 9 Seats
      • Conservative Party - 8 Seats
      • National Front - 1 Seat
      • Green Party - 2 Seats

      David Delsarte: A slim win for the PSM with 9 seats, the tories in a close second with 8 seats while the Greens and National Front at a distant 2 and 1 seats respectively. After the break we'll continue on to middle Miraco with Auvergne, Picardy and Burgandy.

    • Charles Martin: Welcome back, before we begin revealing results for Middle Miraco, let's move on to Monaco, the smallest province in Miraco with only 5 seats which have gone entirely to the Conservative Party, an unsurprising move considering that Monaco has been a Tory stronghold since it's inception. Now from Twitter, we have a tweet from the cast of Les Mis from the London West End:

      @RachelTucker:
      Just got off-stage from a two show day at @wickedthemusicaluk to watch the #MirPoli. Heard the cast of @LesMiserablesUK were watching very closely. #DefyGravitywithPSM #SocialismWorks
      @RachelTucker:
      The West End is pulling for a PSM win, as probably is most of London

      Charles Martin: Moving on to the results from Middle Miraco now, we have Marie Guillaume returning from Trois-Riviéres this time.

      Marie Guillame: Thanks again Charles. A little bit about the regions of Picardy and Auvergne: there are 30 seats in each province with the PSM and the Tories projected to battle it out for dominance. Historically there has never been a consensus reached nor a stronghold established, so it looks like the race just got more interesting. Starting with Picardy the results are as follows:

      • Socialist Party - 9 Seats
      • Conservative Party - 15 Seats
      • National Front - 5 Seat
      • Green Party - 1 Seats

      Marie Guillame: It seems that Picardy has put the tory in victory with 15 seats awarded to the tories. In second is the PSM with 9 seats and the NF and Greens with 5 and 1 seat respectively. Now for the results for Auvergne:

      • Socialist Party - 6 Seats
      • Conservative Party - 17 Seats
      • National Front - 7 Seat
      • Green Party - 0 Seats

      Marie Guillame: The tories win again with 17 seats this time, while the PSM did even worse than the National Front with 6 seats (compared to the NF's 7) and the Greens not winning any seats at all. It looks like the Tories may have their shot at becoming the official opposition this election.

    • Charles Martin: Welcome back everyone, I'm Charles Martin for TVM News covering the Miraco elections. Our current seats awarded are as follows: 93 seats for the PSM, 82 seats for the tories thus far, 48 for Greens and 27 for the National Front. The PSM is ahead but just barely, the Tories have made considerable strides in Middle Miraco. Now it's time for the race for the North where the bulk of seats are concentrated. We will start with Burgundy and Artois, but before we can start with the results, let's check the trends on Twitter.

      Trending Topics

      1. #MIRPOLI
      2. #elxn
      3. #ToryInVictory
      4. Marc Grenouille
      5. #PSM
      6. #RaceForNorth

      Charles Martin: It appears that people are getting excited for the race for the North. Also from twitter is UK PM Hugh Robertson who tweeted:

      @Number10UKGov
      Great showing in Picardy and Auvergne for the Conservative Party of Miraco. Looks like they want a #LongTermEconomicPlan built on empowering the people

      Charles Martin: Now let's move on to the results from Burgundy. We have correspondent Jean-François Bourque.

      Jean-François Bourque: Merci Charles, Burgundy is one of the larger provinces in Miraco holding 40 seats in total, the results are as follows:

      • Socialist Party - 23 Seats
      • Conservative Party - 7 Seats
      • National Front - 1 Seat
      • Green Party - 9 Seats

      Jean-François Bourque: An impressive win for the PSM who took 23 seats. The Greens and Tories are at a distant 9 and 7 seats respectively while the National Front only has one seat.

      Jean-François Bourque: Next up it's the results from Artois where 20 seats are up for grabs.

      • Socialist Party - 12 Seats
      • Conservative Party - 0 Seats
      • National Front - 0 Seat
      • Green Party - 8 Seats

      Jean-François Bourque: Another great win for the PSM with 12 seats. The Greens came in a close second with 8 seats while the Tories and National Front gained zero seats. Which is not completely unexpected coming from the anglophone stronghold of Miraco. Next up is Normandy and the Ile-du-Miraco which will be announced shortly.

    • Charles Martin: Welcome back everyone, now it's time for the true race the race for Ile-du-Miraco and Normandy, the two largest provinces in Miraco with 90 and 60 seats respectively. This time I will be responsible for announcing the results from our studio right here in Mertz. Before we go to the results, let's have another look at Twitter to see what people are saying:

      @Brandon
      I give my cybersupport to @MarcGrenouille and the #PSM. Lead Miraco to Greatness!
      @AsquithRobinson
      Gotta stay neutral and all, but only the Tories have a #LongTermEconomicPlan #SayNoToDrugs

      Charles Martin: Now let's start off the results for the province of Normandy.

      • Socialist Party - 30 Seats
      • Conservative Party - 16 Seats
      • National Front - 4 Seat
      • Green Party - 10 Seats

      Charles Martin: Another win for the PSM with 30 more seats bringing them up to a total of 158 seats, the remaining totals for the Tories, National Front, and Greens are 105, 31, and 75 respectively. Grenoille needs 225 seats to form a majority government which is 67 seats from the Ile-du-Miraco. Will he be able to succeed for will we have the first minority government in Miracan history? Join us after the break for the results from the Ile-du-Miraco.

    • Charles Martin: Welcome back everyone. Live from Mertz, we're going to start with the results for the Ile-du-Miraco, where the majority of the seats are concentrated and the winner will be decided, it seems to be a tight race between the PSM and the Tories. It is possible that the tories would be able to exceed the number of seats gained by the PSM and go on to potentially forming a minority Tory government, it is also possible that the PSM grabs 67 more seats earning yet another majority.

      Charles Martin: The results have just come in and they are as follows

      • Socialist Party - 50 Seats
      • Conservative Party - 20 Seats
      • National Front - 5 Seat
      • Green Party - 15 Seats

      Charles Martin: Wow! An impressive victory for the PSM by any margin though it looks like they have failed to secure the number of seats required for a majority with just 208 out of the 225 seats required. The final seat count is as follows: 208 for the PSM, 125 for the Tories, 36 for the National Front and 90 for the Green Party. What happens next then? It appears we have the first PSM minority government in Miracan history, since the incumbent government is the PSM then they will have the right to form the government, the other parties then have to give their support and confidence in the new government in order to have them govern, otherwise they may form coalitions a highly unlikely move given the political stances of the Greens and the Tories (the only viable candidates for a coalition). The Tories will become the official opposition assuming the PSM forms the government. That concludes our coverage for the Miraco November Elections, keep the conversation going on our social media @TVMNews. Merci et bonnuit.
