    Statement on World Refugee Day

The Prime Minister, Xavier Bettel, today issued the following statement on World Refugee Day:

“On World Refugee Day, we join the global community to recognize people around the world who have been forced to flee their homes. We honour the resilience and strength of refugees and displaced people, acknowledge the profound hardships they face, and stand with them.

“Each year, thousands are forced to flee conflict, insecurity, and persecution.People who have been driven from their homes face immense loss, barriers, and trauma – both old and new. They carry with them memories, dreams, and hope for a better future. We share a moral responsibility to help them find shelter and start their lives anew – and as Montenbourgians, we know first-hand the contributions they make. Over these months and years, refugees have helped build the strong, open, and prosperous Montenbourg we know today.

“Montenbourg will not stand idle while hundreds of thousands of people – including Kassian refugees – suffer forced displacement and human rights violations. In response to the work of His Majesty’s Special Envoy to Dromund Kass, the Duchess of Apulia, we will lead on initiatives to promote human rights and improve living conditions of Kassian refugees and those displaced by the conflict in Dromund Kass. We will also support efforts to bring perpetrators of gross human rights violations to account. Guided by our humanitarian spirit, Montenbourg has dedicated $100 million over the next three years to step up its response to this ongoing humanitarian crisis, with a particular emphasis on ensuring that the needs of women, girls and minorities are met. Also we are working with the government of Turkmenbaijan for preventing a possible refugee crisis in the region, for the  assurance of peace between ethnic kyrzbeks and ethnic turkmenbaijanis under the direction of Montenbourg.

“Women, girls, and other marginalized groups suffer different and disproportionate effects of conflict and displacement – and their empowerment is key to building lasting peace and prosperity. That is why, Montenbourg and partners announced a historic investment of nearly $1.8 billion in education for women and girls in crisis and conflict situations – the largest of its kind ever made. This is about making a real difference in the lives of millions of women girls and minorities, including those growing up in refugee camps. They deserve the chance to learn and get the education they need to reclaim their future and their dreams.

“Today, I ask Montenbourgians, Europeans and people around the world to stand with refugees, displaced people, and all those who are forced to leave home behind. How we treat the most vulnerable among us defines who we are – as individuals, as countries, and as a global community. Defend and promote the Refugee Protection Act, and let’s choose justice over fear and compassion over division – because to see ourselves in each other, all we have to do is look.”

    Hon. Xävier Bettel,

Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Montenbourg (Stätsminister Möntenboürg)

HM Foreign Minister, Elizabeth McCörd and the office have issued a statement on the issue of Turkmenbaijan and the declarations of the Government of Australia:

"We are one-hundred-percent open to discuss these issues. But they aren't right now any troops deploy or any mission approved; we understand the need to cease hostility among the ethnic minority of Kyrzbek people, and we don't want another Kassian Crisis.

That's why this still at the table of discussion, as an alternative not a solution. We discussed with the Government of Turkmenbaijan about this situation and we agree that the leaders of the Kyrzbekistan and the government, need to sit at a table to talk. We propose a summit taking the talking points presented by the Government of Australia and reach a solution.

Let's be clear once again, the enemies of peace have fought the tide of history with terror and violence. We grieve for their victims, and we renew our vow to redeem the sacrifice of those victims. We will defeat those who resort to terror. And we revere the determination of these leaders who will choose peace, who will reject the old habits of hatred and revenge. Because they broke so bravely with the past, the bridges have multiplied -- bridges of communication, of commerce, of understanding. We will not change our policy of putting humanity in front, always."

The Prime Minister,  Xävier Bettel, today issued the following statement following the “Right to Try” Bill Signing:

"With the Right to Try law I’m signing today, patients with life-threatening illnesses will finally have access to experimental treatments that could improve or even cure their conditions.  These are experimental treatments and products that have shown great promise, and we weren’t able to use them before.  Now we can use them.  And oftentimes they’re going to be very successful.  It’s an excellent thing."

"The Right to Try also offers new hope for those who either don’t qualify for clinical trials or who have exhausted all available treatment options.  There were no options, but now you have hope.  You really have hope."

"Matthew Ugter, who is here with us, is just one example of many Montenbourgian who today has new cause for hope.  Due to the late progression of Matt’s ALS, he doesn’t qualify for any clinical trials in the Kingdom.  He wouldn’t qualify; couldn’t do it.  They tried; he didn’t qualify. Now, with the passage of this bill, Montenbourgians will be able to seek cures right here at home, close to their family and their loved ones.  We are finally giving these wonderful Montenbourgians the right to try.  So important."

"Now, as I proudly sign — and this is very personal for me.  But as I proudly sign this bill, thousands of terminally ill Montebourgians will finally have the help, the hope, and the fighting chance — and I think it’s going to be better than chance — that they will be cured, that they will be helped, that they’ll be able to be with their families for a long time or maybe just for a longer time.  But we’re able to give them the absolute best, as to what we have at this current moment, at this current second.  And now, we’re going to help a lot of people.  We’re going to help a lot of people.

"So it’s an honor to be signing this. (The bill is signed.)  (Applause.) So I want to thank — (laughter) — it’s going to be fantastic. Thank you all very much.  This, to me, is very exciting.  And you’re going to see some tremendous results.  We’re going to have some incredible, incredible results. So thank you all for being here.  And all of the people in the audience who have been so helpful, thank you very much.  It’s going to be something very, very special.  Thank you." (Applause.)

Following the declarations of the Government of Australia, HM Foreign Minister, Elizabeth McCörd and the office have issued a statement on the situation in Turkmenbaijan:

"The Kingdom of Montenbourg is  deeply concerned at the escalation of tensions in the districts of Kharabad, Arak and Küran, on the Ýylyznamabad administrative division of the State of Turkmenbaijan. Today, I will set out how the Turkmenbaijan Government under President Constantini is taking steps that are weakening the rules-based order under our Union. Our values, our security, our prosperity, and our very way of life are tied to this order. And we – and by we, I mean the Kingdom of Montenbourg and our closest partners – must come together to prevent Turkmenbaijan from succeeding targeting minorites. Kyrzbeks are indeed targeted by the Government of Turkmenbaijan, either be in election processes or in no-self determination, and we as a nation that believes in dialogue and commitment, have seen that the State is not granting Kyrzbeks way-out, they are being subject to impositions of order but no further intentions to peace, dialogue and most importantly coexistence.

Our efforts of dialogue are on the table, but the self-determination of Kharabad, Arak and Küran that in unity forms part of the Kyrzbek community needs to be given. We join the call of Australia on a referendum on the future of the Kyrzbek region giving a  Kyrzbeks-only vote. The question here is not in Turkmenbaijan government headquarters, but in the real will of the residents of Kharabad, Arak and Küran, which should be determined in real terms, and not as it was wanted by the will of Government politicians. We will not backdown against oppression."

Under this administration we're planning a visit of His Majesty's Foreign Office to discuss with their Government and local leaders the advances on human rights, specifically under the outright propaganda concerning homosexuality and public expression suspended from their criminal code, an advance which we feel it's excellent towards the advance of human rights in Turkmenbaijan. Following the declarations of the Government of Turkmenbaijan on their official communiqué, His Majesty's Foreign Minister, Elizabeth McCörd and the office have issued a statement:

"I've been in enough political fights in my life to know that sometimes you just have to do the right thing -- and it may work out and it may not. The Kingdom applauds the new Kryzbek Republic under the State Turkmenbaijan. For over months and years the Kryzbeks have lived through a tragic cycle of violence that has cost hundreds of lives. That we understand it has shattered the confidence in the peace-solution-independence process."

"It has raised questions in some people's minds about whether Kyrzbeks and Turkmenbajanis could ever really live and work together, support each other's peace and prosperity and security. It's been a heartbreaking time for me, too, as Minister of Foreign Affairs taking stances. But we have seen that this is a move forward, the new Kyrzbek Republic of under the State Turkmenbaijan should be the homeland of hope and commitment for both parties. And a landmark of achievement for Europe and Montenbourg excersing our aims to the betterment of the Kyrzbek people."

Prime Minister announces more money for Montenbourgian families.

Two years ago, the Government of Montenbourg introduced the Montenbourg Child Benefit (MCB) – a simpler, tax-free, new child benefit better targeted to those who need it most. Since then, the MCB has helped lift more than half a million people – including 300,000 children – out of poverty, and nine out of 10 families now have more money in their pockets to help with the high cost of raising their kids.

The Prime Minister, Xävier Bettel, today announced that the MCB has increased to keep up with the cost of living. This change comes two years ahead of schedule and will give hardworking parents more money each month to buy the things their families need. The indexation of the MCB will provide an additional $5.6 billion in support to Montenbourgians and their families over the next five years. When the cost of everyday essentials like groceries goes up, families will receive more in benefits each month.

For the 2018-19 benefit year, the MCB will have a maximum annual benefit of MP$6,496 per child under 6 years old and $5,481 per child aged 6 to 17 years. On average, families will receive $6,800 a year, tax-free, to put healthy food on the table, pay for summer camp, and buy new clothes for the upcoming school year.

“Since its introduction, the Montenbourg Child Benefit has given much needed relief to parents across the country who are working hard to make ends meet. Starting today, Montenbourgian families will receive even more money. We promised Montenbourgians that we would index the CCB to inflation, and I’m proud we’ve delivered, two years earlier than expected.”-. The Rt. Hon. Xävier Bettel, Prime Minister of Montenbourg.

Regarding the Montenbourg-Derecta relations on Climate Change.

His Majesty's Government gives high priority to climate change, and is concerned at the reduced importance of climate- and environment-related research in the Montenbourg Scientific Research Centre in Dikaíoma, is needed to chart the impact of climate change on society, develop adaptation measures, find effective measures to reduce emissions, and transition to a fossil-free circular economy. Because Derecta and Montenbourg share a common vision regarding international relations. Our countries are deeply committed to promoting the European Union and working together for peace, security, human rights and definitely climate change.

Climate change is having devastating effects around the world. The least developed countries, which do not have sufficient resources to adapt their societies, are the most vulnerable. Countries with high levels of greenhouse gas emissions must increase their support to live up to the Climate Change Act which is under repeal. Montenbourg's Government is taking responsibility and is now providing additional financing to research and opposing offshore drilling, fracking and any such practice that threatens Montenbourg's world-class environment.
