Hispano-German War

  • Sirs and Ladies of the Council,

    I feel it imperative that we wait no longer in discussing the war taking place between the Spanish Republic and the Federal Republic of the Greater German Realm. You will know that Spain's military dictator Villar has first ordered an attack on a German warship, and has in the last few hours officially declared war on the Reich. We assume that, in accordance with their defence pacts, Nazione Italiana and the Soviet Union shall militarily support the Reich during this war.

    I move for the following resolution to be passed:

    QUOTE

    Condemnation of the illegitimate Villar Government of the Republic of Spain

    REALISING the attack on a Reich destroyer by the Spanish navy to be an illegal act of provocation;

    LIKEWISE REALISING the decision of the Spanish military government to declare war on the Reich to be an illegal act of aggression;

    GIVING full support to the Reich in its self-defence against Spain;

    RECOGNISING that Joaquin Villar is NOT the legitimate ruler of Spain;

    CONDEMNS the Villar administration and mandates the forcible removal of Villar's government in favour of the legitimate and democratic government of Spain by the Reich and her allies, if they so wish.

  • The Spanish Republic has made no attempt to contact the government of Nazione Italiana. The last contact our government has from the Reich was a telegram informing us of military action, but nothing of a war declaration. As of this very second, Nazione Italiana is not at war, but will defend herself and her German brothers when and if the time should come.

    We support this resolution, but the destroyer didn't sink.

  • Duly edited.

  • administrators

    The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics shall stand true to its treaty obligations by the side of the German government, and supports this resolution.

  • Does the Spanish Chair have nothing to say?

  • Our government will never give its support to this resolution, seeing it as an unjust measure against a government that is simply defending itself from foreign intrusion into its internal affairs.

  • Before any more blood is shed, Nazione Italiana asks that the German and Spanish governments state their cases and accounts. This should include a solution to diplomatically end the war, before it is settled with force.

  • administrators

    The German stance is clear and simple. Our consulate in Barcelona gave refuge to some protesters who were being attacked by police forces because of their ideology. Our consulate got sealed and we sent two military vessels to defend our interests. If the Spanish military decided to attack us with no reason and then declare war on us they should pay for that. We would like to see this dispute settled in a diplomatic way, but it depends on Spain.

  • If Spain does not answer Nazione Italiana's request for a Spanish peaceful solution to this conflict, she will be forced to take action.

  • Panzeri stood before a silent Council, missing representatives of the Reich and Spain.

    "I stand before you all with the heaviest of hearts to explain what has happened in Grande Germania. An onslaught of missiles, launched by Spain, has destroyed several cities in the Reich. More than seven million are dead. However, the German government has reported that some form of biological weaponry was inside these missiles. Apparently, many of the murdered have, whether you choose to believe it or not, reanimated. We have no official scientific report on how this is possible or what this means for the rest of us, not infected with this agent.

    "The missile attack on the Reich more than clearly demonstrates the insanity that currently governs Spain. The attack hit average citizens, whose only warning was given three minutes beforehand, by the Reich's internal ministry. This can hardly be called a military attack or invasion; rather it is a mad, evil and cowardly terrorist attack that has no place even among war between two nations. I call on all nations to take action against this act of brutality. In addition, I ask the Soviet Union to set aside any differences she may have with Nazione Italiana for the time being and become our fratelli russi in this time of great need. We need to work together and protect our German friends.

    Although our demands on Spain have all gone unanswered, we deliver a final ultimatum. Surrender and relinquish all nuclear weapons, biological agents and other missiles, or face invasion and destruction."

  • Newly-elected Speaker Anatoly Keith stood to speak for his nation.

    The Grand Marquessate of Angleter has suffered seven deaths as a result of the atrocity committed by Spain. While this pales into insignificance in comparison to the disaster the Reich has faced, we cannot help but take this act of aggression on a non-combatant nation extremely seriously.

    We consider this a murder of seven Angleteric civilians, and give the Spanish government 48 hours to announce all those responsible, in the giving of this weapon to Spain, in the planning of this atrocity, and in the carrying out of this atrocity. This includes, of course, General Villar, for whose arrest we already have a warrant.

    These people must have their names announced to the Council and must be rounded up for extradition to Angleter within 48 hours- else we shall have no choice but to declare war on the Spanish Republic.

    Furthermore, the cost of preventing further misery in the North of Angleter is expected to enter the millions of Pounds. Once we have made an estimated sum of the economic damage, Spain shall be required to pay the Grand Marquessate of Angleter double this amount in damages. Of course, if we are forced into war with Spain, this- in addition to the entire cost of our war with Spain- shall be a term for peace.

    The Spanish government has a choice. It can choose either to surrender now and face its consequences, or it can fight on to face even worse consequences.

    I also wish to begin voting on the Condemnation tabled amended as follows:

    QUOTE

    Condemnation of the illegitimate Villar Government of the Republic of Spain

    REALISING the attack on a Reich destroyer by the Spanish navy to be an illegal act of provocation;

    LIKEWISE REALISING the decision of the Spanish military government to declare war on the Reich to be an illegal act of aggression;

    REMEMBERING the murder of millions of citizens in the Reich on 14/4/10 by a Spanish biological attack;

    REMEMBERING ALSO that this attack included the murder of citizens of the then neutral Grand Marquessate of Angleter;

    GIVING full support to the Reich and her allies in their self-defence against Spain;

    RECOGNISING that Joaquin Villar is NOT the legitimate ruler of Spain;

    CONDEMNS the Villar administration;

    MANDATES the forcible removal of Villar's government in favour of the legitimate and democratic government of Spain by the Reich and her allies, if they so wish;

    DEMANDS the payment of suitable compensation by Spain to all nations that she has attacked and their allies for the cost of this war and its effects;

    AND DEMANDS that all those responsible for the attack- who are to be named by a representative of the Villar government- on 14/4/10 be extradited to whichever nations wish to bring criminal charges against them for the attack.

  • Unfreedomia stands strongly behind this proclamation although as a result it may put us at risk from a similiar attack from Spain. However, we wish to make known the fact that a biological attack on Unfreedomia from Spain will be reacted to by a nuclear attack.

  • That I shall take as a Yes vote.

    Angleter votes Yes.

    Voting ends 2359 BST 18/4/10.

  • As of 1940 BST on this day, the Grand Marquessate of Angleter has been in a state of war against the Spanish Republic. General Villar, I suggest that you hand yourself and your alleged co-conspirators over to be transported for trial to Angleter, and repay twice the costs involved in the murder and reaction to the murder of our seven civilians, and 150% of the cost of mobilisation for this war. Then we shall have peace.

    Howard S?nger opened the door and entered the room. He sat and read the Angleteric resolution proposal.

    Ladies and gentlemen of the European Council, on behalf of the provisional national government of the Reich, we vote FOR this proposal.

  • Nazione Italiana votes FOR the proposed resolution and welcomes the Honorable Signore S?nger back to the Council.

  • administrators

    The Soviet Union condemns the atrocities with all its heart. As of this moment, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics is at a state of emergency and war with the Spanish regime and all its resources. We reserve our immediate right to strike preventively and pre-emptively for the goodness of society and the people of the Soviet Union and Europe.

    For the first time in its history, the USSR declares DEFCON 1. We recommend that all nations prepare accordingly; no other warnings will be given.

  • The resolution is passed with a 100% majority.

  • Panzeri turned bright red; quite a feat for such a dark-skinned Italian.

    "Signore Kirov, I know you surely wouldn't ignore me, so, do tell me: are your interpreters over there failing you, or are you just hard of hearing?"
