Journey to the Past

A small Yosainese delegation of researchers in the field of anthropology, sociology and archaeology was stationed jeep in the forest and alpine nation of Underath. Recently discovered by Spain, they seemed to be in the Middle Ages, socially and technologically, the contingent consisted of 100 Yosainese delegates.
70 of those people were made up of people from various universities with degrees in Sociology, anthropology and archaeology and have been given grants commissioned to study the society of this peculiar nation, at the head was Professor Ayumi Maiyama from Tokyo University and was put in charge of this research project.
They have been in this nation for a little over 8 months, she has had a few meetings with King Zagreus in the past and relations have been rather cautious but friendly and cordial, that was thanks to her trusted colleague Hideki Shigata who was made ambassador courtesy of the Federal Republic of Yosai’s State Department, he has also had conversations with King Zagreus and his advisors a few times and it was always pleasant and constructive.
The encampment was composed of tents, mobile trailers and a lot of picket tents. Inside of which was a lot of research notes, books, artifacts from the capital which were bought and given for study courtesy of generous people from the capital and the occasional gift from King Zagreus’s delegation. The delegates were always met with security never confrontational. Head of this military contingent of 30 was First Lieutenant Makoto Shinra and his men from the Federal Yosainese Defence Force, Army division.
The delegation came via the west coast facing the Atlantic and were resupplied by commercial ships on the west coast every 3 months and have settled 4 kilometres outside the gates of the capitol of Attella. Professor Maiyama was accompanied by Ambassador Shigata. They had important business with His Majesty King Zagreus.
They then had 3 soldiers with them drive them in a jeep up to the front gates and met with the guards with the usual procedure for entry. Both were dressed in their usual conservative attire as they were meeting with the King at the palace.
Both delegates bowed to the guards out of respect. Inside Ambassador Shigata’s suitcase were documents, one was a formal handwritten latter then a translated letter written by General Secretary Junichi Watanabe himself and then a translated copy which was jointly translated by the resident Yosainese linguist and the head librarian at the capitol’s top library and university specifying that he would like to meet His Majesty.
Ambassador Makoto Shigata spoke to the guards outside of the capitol “Good Afternoon, Officers, nice to see you again. We ask for your permission for passage and possible accompaniment to the palace of His Majesty King Zagreus. We have a message from our leader that he wishes to meet him personally. We hope we can have an audience with him regarding this matter. Is that alright?” Asked Ambassador Shigata, waiting for an answer from one of the guards on duty.

"Good Afternoon, foreigners. I am pleased with your respectful stance, but we don't bow down here, only in front of the Gods." one of the guards said and commanded both Yosaians to wait as they informed the King of their presence.
Not much time passed, and the guard inform both delegates that the King would see them. Opening the gates of his majesty's palace, the Yosaians were guided by a handful of royal guards, who led them through the beautiful garden and into the palace, where they saw many classy pieces of furniture straight out of the past.
They were then presented to King Zagreus, who welcomed them.
"Good day to you, Yosaians, and welcome to my palace. I heard that you wanted to discuss something with me. Speak, then" he said, as he commanded some servants to give the foreigners seats and a glass of wine.

Ambassador Shigata replied while finishing his first sip of the wine he was offered. while being seated. His colleague Professor Maiyama let the ambassador do most of the talking in matters such as these as he was the trained diplomat and her expertise was more in line of anthropological and archeological research.
"Yes as always Your Majesty we appreciate your hospitality. As you know we have a small contingent a few kilometers outside of your nations capital which you have graciously let us reside in order to conduct our research and conduct exploratory expeditions and allow us to build up a small encampment for a diplomatic mission. However in this suitcase is a letter from my nations leader. General Secretary Junichi Watanabe. The letter outlines the agenda of him wanting to meet with yourself, face to face."
The ambassador opened the suitcase and handed the letter to one of the King's Royal guards to pass to King Zagreus. and it read as such:
*"To His Majesty King Zagreus of the Kingdom of Underath
It is with great honour that I write this letter to you. I as the leader of the Federal Republic of Yosai wish to extend you a welcome to the world. It can be overwhelming but I believe that we can be a guide to your Kingdom's orientation to international affairs.
It is with great hope that Your Majesty accepts to host a visit of a small delegation of myself and a diplomatic delegation in order for us to meet with you personally. The reports and stories I have heard from both Ambassador Hideki Shigata and Professor Ayumi Maiyama have been rather interesting and positive, especially from a land whose culture is very different from our own.
With that said I wish to see for myself and have been looking forward to speaking with you for a long time and seeing how both of our nations can benefit from further exchanges with each other, if you'll allow it of course. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

"*Ambassador Shigata enjoyed the food and wine as he gave the King some time to read and process the translated letter given to him and politely asking while summonsing "If I were to summorise Your Highness our leader wishes to have an audience with you personally. Of course it is your decision."
The two delegates waited on the other side of the table opposite t his majesty quietly waiting for the King to answer.

King Zagreus laughed."About time! Let me tell you what a real ruler does, he goes to the other nation's capital and asks to talk with the nation's leader. Shall he accept, they are greeted with honor but shall he decline, he must go all the way back to his country, while thinking about what he has done to be so embarrassed in both countries
Though I suppose you outsider have other customs, and I shall not question that. Nevertheless, as your leader has not done anything to harm Underath, he is always welcome. Tell him that, and let him come whenever he pleases.

Ambassador Shigata replied “Of course your majesty.” They then have a nice festive evening of food and wine. Two weeks later a ship showed up to the west Atlantic coast of the country. With General Secretary Watanabe himself accompanied by 10 officers who drove him to the encampment. Where he met with the expedition where he was briefed by all heads involved.
Afer being briefed by Ambassador Shigata and Professor Maiyama he answered “Really? We are truly in the presence of the past?” Professor Maiyama replied “Well yes, but that that doesn’t mean that they don’t have anything to offer sir.
General Secretary Watanabe replied “oh of course not, we just have to see what, my only concern that given their behind technologically I’m just worried that other nations want to exploit or take advantage of them. Anyone have any ideas on how to proceed further?”
Ambassador Hideki Shigata replied “well Sir I have complied a report basically recommending a basic plan of starting with quality of life improvements, such as providing them medical supplies and slowly introducing them with medical technology and teaching them agricultural methods to feed more people and store their food longer, which will hopefully lead to lengthening their lifespan and also introducing them to cleaning agents to improve hygiene levels and reduce the chance of disease and then figuring out ways for their people to have easier access to clean water. I mean we can’t just give them aqueducts, sanitation and an entire plumping system out of nowhere.”
“True, well in any case I think I should at least meet the man first so that we can see what he actually wants.”
A military contingent as well as General Secretary Watanabe and Ambassador Shigata and Professor Maiyama then took a jeep to the front gates of Attella with guards at the gates again. Ambassador Shigata then were stopped at the gates again. “Afternoon officers, its just us again. We have a special guest with us this time. We have the leader of our nation General Secretary Junichi Watanabe who requests an audience with his majesty King Zagreus.”
General Secretary Junichi Watanabe got out of the vehicle “Good afternoon officers. I’m honored to be invited to your fine country.” He said dressed in his usual business suit wearing a gentle smile on his face as he waived at the guards. “I hear your King is a great man. I am looking forward to meeting him in person and I apologise for keeping him waiting this whole time.”
