Tree of Osman, Chapter I: The Flower
-
Act I
The Divan Gate, the Old Palace, Constantinople
27 April, 2020-- Morning(IC Secret)
“God damn it!” shouted Yeghoyan, tossing a report on a table haphazardly
“Your excellency?”
“I knew the Greeks were always going to be trouble, but Trympov? There has to be an explanation for this. They can’t just support a babbling mad man out of nowhere. No. I bet its that Vali...”
The room was ornamented with an assortment of fabrics and rugs, illuminated only by Sun shining on the courtyard outside through the windows and the Gate itself. The room, like the rest of the palace, smelt of Frankincense, burnt by the various and elaborate incense burners throughout the complex. One of the backrooms was the Imperial Council room. It wasn't much bigger than a conference room you would find much elsewhere-- except the distinction of it being elaborately decorated.
“Alright ministers, we have a new issue to discuss. What to do about the Greeks… and possibly what to do with the rest of the Christians. I am sure you all know what is at stake here.”
“Well maybe the Greeks are right.” spoke one Minister. “Perhaps we should be worried about Communism. With all due respect, your Excellency, but you said it yourself.”
“Really? Communism?.... Alright apparently we have not met for too long so let’s debrief: As we all know, I won the 2019 elections and I have a mandate as the leader of the Christain community in the Empire; I am supposed to represent their interests. By Christains supporting this maniac, I can’t lead the party and I certainly can’t govern. Do we all see the issue now?”
“Well we all know that we need Juncker, so let’s set up a rally on the Greek island and invite Juncker. I know Yeghoyan, you want to seem neutral-- but I honestly don't know how you are going out of this unless you pick a side.”
“Besides, Yeghoyan” remarks another Minister, “Juncker is a Catholic as far as I know. If anyone questions your loyalties to Christ, you can simply point out that the MHB don’t support him and you are supporting a fellow Christain. If anything, it is them that are being anti-Christain, since I don’t see Trympov going around with a Bible.”
“Well, neither is Juncker. And I don’t feel that will satisfy the Greeks.”
“With all due respect Yeghoyan, but I suggest you make up your mind because the Greeks are not leaving you with very many options. Anyways, I believe this was the last point of order today?”
“Yeah, you are all dismissed. We will discuss this further Wednesday.”
