Jean-Claude Juncker Statement on Eastern Haane
-
My fellow Europeans,
Dark days are coming to Europe. The situation in Eastern Haane gets worse by moments. Thousands of innocents have been killed, and meanwhile others fight for their freedom and their lives with hope. The European Union and myself, as the Internal Affairs Commissioner, won't allow more lives to be lost. The European Commission will always side with those defending democracy, freedom and will try to help as much as possible.
Tomorrow, I'll be submitting a request to the Council in which I'll ask for permission to deploy the European Relief Force once most of the conflict is gone. Meanwhile, my bid is on cooperation between the different European armies and coordination leaded by the chief of operations of each army taking part on the conflict plus the European Institutions. Lives will be lost, I'm afraid, but we can't afford this conflict anymore. We will be on the need of cooperation by every European nation, and not act like selfish nations which just spend their time on criticizing the European Commission instead of suggesting, adding new points of view to the discussion that is going on at the Council right now.
Europe is able to cooperate, I'm sure about that. But now, we need to proof that statements like these are true. As Internal Affairs Commissioner, I'm responsible of peace keeping, of helping nations. Eastern Haane needs help again, and I'm not going to ignore those requests.
And now, I would like to dedicate some of my words to the Eastern Haaneans:
You are now going through the worst days in your lives. You might have lost some members of your families, you are seeing how your nation is falling apart. But the European Union, specially the Commission and the Council, won't let you fall apart. Europe will stand with you, the ones that are fighting for freedom and democracy, and with the innocent people like your neighbours or yourselves, that are scared of being killed as part of the bloodbaths taking place. I know what you are siffering, not able to eat a thing because there's no food, not able to drink some water because it's contaminated, not able to go to the park with your friends or children because the park is on fire or you could be killed while walking on the streets.
But you can't be confused. This is not something God has done, but the people that ruled your country. They are responsible of the damage, of the deaths of thousands of Eastern Haaneans like you. Europe will not forgive, will not forget those who made you suffer, but will stand with you whenever you need. This Commissioner, and his Commission mates, Ms. Merkel and Mr. Reynels, are here to help, along with all the Councillors.
We trust on you, we are not letting you apart. Help is on the way, and we will start to take part as soon as possible. And remember, Europe is here to help. I'll be sending my prayers to those in conflict, in the front or running away from that hell that your country must be right now.
My best wishes and my full support,
Jean-Claude Juncker
Internal Affairs Commissioner
