What is being elected
A once in a lifetime event(hopefully) the High Duke election is where new High Duke head of state who is a neutral arbiter and figurehead for the country is elected.
The Process
Candidates can be High Duke/Duchess position with current Dukes and Duchesses who choose to run or a nominated son and daughter of a Duke or Duchess being the candidates. The election consists of gaining a majority of the House of Duchies which has 30 elected seats in each duchy for a total of 210 and The Imperial Senate. If on can win a majority in both houses then they are crowned High Duke or High Duchess for their life or until they relinquish the throne though this is not traditionally done if one candidate cannot be agreed by both houses the top 2 in terms of votes will draw lots for the throne.The candidates will be questioned in the House not every family is likely to run a candidate with some backing other houses which though not a garuntee can be a great help. -
