        Thank you, Europe

        January 16, 2023

Dear citizens of the European Union,

It is an honour to be elected to serve as your thirty-third Internal Affairs Commissioner. After weeks of campaigning and debating, I am delighted that you have chosen me, Wirt Harland, as a part of the next commission. While no language I know is enough to express my gratitude, I will make up for it with my actions, moving forward like how I presented myself as a candidate: A man who wants to introduce systemic reform to the European Union for the good of its citizens.

Before February, I am planning to bring several amendments to our Constitution to the European Council, most of which will concern the political and electoral systems of the EU. During this time, I will collaborate with councillors from all sides of the political spectrum to ensure that the reforms I bring will last for decades.

In addition, I am also planning to take trips to various countries and meet with their leaders and listen to their concerns regarding the EU and their membership. In a political institution as immense as the European Union, it is expected for every member state to have differing opinions on how it should be run. I will take every concern seriously and make sure to not compensate for what I believe in.

Once again: Thank you. Thank you a thousand times, Europe. You gave me this opportunity for four months and I will try my best to make every month count.

          The first step to change

          January 20, 2023

Dear citizens of the European Union,

I have now submitted one of many constitutional amendments to the European Council. It is one of many steps I will take during my time as a Commissioner to give more power to the member states.

If this amendment passes, member states of the European Union can approve or disapprove a candidate running unopposed in commission elections.

While I can submit all reforms and amendments at once, I would like not to cause any chaos and go one by one with a thorough discussion and certain consensus on each reform.

It is also important for the citizens to inform their councillors what they think of the reforms. If possible, it would be appreciated for the Europeans to inform the councillors of respective countries of their approval of the amendments.

Public support is one of the most important things that can make our reforms permanent. And I am confident that Europeans will stand behind me as we move forward to a more stable and representative European Union.

Agreement with Kingdom of Reitzmag, the United Duchies and People's Democratic Republic of Svarna Surya

              January 24, 2023

To conclude the conflict between the Kingdom of Reitzmag, the United Duchies and the People's Democratic Republic of Svarna Surya which commenced in December 2022, the three nations, alongside the Internal Affairs Commissioner Wirt Harland, have gathered in the city of Europolis to agree on the following:

              • A fund will be established by Reitzmag and the United Duchies to help Svarna Surya recover from the damage that the conflict has caused.
              • The assets in the established fund will be used for reconstruction, as well as for Svarna Surya's transition to a democratic system of governance, and Svarna Surya will be able to make financial requests from this fund for these purposes.
              • The fund will be managed by Reitzmag and the United Duchies, as well as three independent managers that will be appointed by the governments of The State of Elthize, The Federal Republic of Yosai and The Archrepublic of Vayinaod.
              • The managers will be authorised to approve, veto and monitor requests made by Svarna Surya, manage the release of funds, access detailed information regarding companies that are receiving funding, and make investments for the fund.
              • The government of Svarna Surya promises to fully collaborate with all workers responsible for monitoring and managing the fund, as well as protecting them from any outside danger.
              • The government of Svarna Surya promises to transition into a democratic system of governance and abolish their secret police and unlawful surveillance systems following the establishment of this fund.
              • The managers of the fund reserve the right to freeze all transitions if the Svarnan government doesn't meet the demands aforementioned.

Statement regarding the conflict in Gadalland and Aspern

                February 13, 2023

The European Commission is deeply concerned about the alarming developments emerging in Gadalland and Aspern. We fear that the conflict happening in the country may escalate further, which will result in further harm to citizens in Gadalland and Aspern, who are in danger of displacement, false imprisonment and killings.

The Commission stands with the Sertian government which the European Union recognizes and denounces the actions initiated by Mr Guthrun Wond, which it believes drives the country into instability, negatively impacting the lives of the citizens in Gadalland and Aspern.

The Commission calls for immediate peace and a resolution of means through diplomacy instead of violence and is willing to assist the peace process between the two sides.

Announcement on the Fourth European Union Leaders Summit

                  April 12, 2023

Since my current colleague, Premier Jean-Claude Juncker, commenced the first European Leaders Summit as Internal Affairs Commissioner, it has become a tradition for the commissioners that succeed him to call in all leaders of the member states of the European Union at least once during their term in office. To continue this tradition, I announce that the Fourth European Union Leaders Summit shall commence on May 1st, in the city of Europolis.

This event is extremely important and serves as an opportunity for the leaders of the EU member states to come together and discuss challenges facing the European Union. It provides a platform for open and constructive dialogue and exchanging ideas and viewpoints. I am confident that this summit will be a productive and successful one, and that it will help to shape the future direction of the European Union.

I look forward to welcoming all of the leaders of the member states to Europolis and engaging in productive discussions with them throughout the summit.

                    Announcing my IAC campaign

                    June 7, 2023

                    alt text

Dear citizens of the European Union,

I am proud to announce my campaign for a second term as the Internal Affairs Commissioner. Ever since taking this job in January, I have served you with my best effort. Here is what I have done in four months:

                    • I brokered a deal between the Kingdom of Reitzmag, the United Duchies and the People's Democratic Republic of Svarna Surya after a conflict which could devastate the EU.
                    • Alongside my premier colleague Juncker, I condemned the riots against the EU-recognized Gadalland and Aspern, led by Guthrun Wond.
                    • I put up my constitutional reform, which promised that unopposed candidates in the commission elections would be subject to a referendum before taking office. Unfortunately, this was not approved by the European Council.
                    • I also initiated the Fourth European Leaders Summit last month, once again with Premier Juncker.

In my second term, I plan to do the following:

                    • Submitting a bill to the European Council that will standardize trade and consumer protections and standards within the European Union.
                    • Submitting a comprehensive environmental protection plan to the European Council to address climate change, as well as further investing in clean energy resources.
                    • Strengthening integration and ensuring equality throughout the European Union.
                    • Further committing to peace between the member states of the European Union.

I completely understand the criticisms that come my way. I have not been able to be as prevalent in the European political sphere as I would like to be, and I apologize to those that have been disappointed in me for this. Mea culpa.

I will rally the European Union to meet with the people of the EU, as well as endorse one of the candidates for Premier Commissioner. These will be announced next week.

Thank you for listening, and for not losing hope. I will serve the Union for as long as the people elect me here. Thank you.

Statement regarding the recent developments in the Republic of Istkalen

                      June 14, 2023

On June 8, 2023, I initiated a discussion within the European Council concerning the appropriate actions for the European Union to take in response to the dire situation in Istkalen. In Istkalen, the National Salvation Council, a military-backed organization, poses a threat to the democratically elected government by enacting laws that blatantly violate the Constitution of the European Union and jeopardize the safety of marginalized groups.

Regrettably, the outcome of this discussion has been unproductive, as the representatives from the United Kingdom and the United Duchies have effectively blocked any meaningful conversation. They have implied that I am advocating for military intervention, misrepresenting my intentions through the use of a strawman. I want to clarify that I do not possess the authority or capability to initiate such action, nor do I intend to use military intervention, ever. I condemn such actions.

Following the discussion in the European Council, the situation in Istkalen has deteriorated further, with the National Salvation Council (NSC) posing a significant threat to the democratically elected government and legislature of the country. The NSC's enactment of draconian laws is in direct contradiction to the values upheld by the European Union, and I strongly believe that inaction in the face of this crisis is unacceptable.

In light of these developments, I am committed to taking action. In the coming days, I plan to engage in discussions with my colleague Juncker, as well as the incoming Premier Commissioner, if necessary, to address this issue. It is important to explore all possible avenues to ensure that the values of the European Union are upheld and that appropriate measures are taken to protect the democratic institutions and the safety of all individuals in Istkalen.
