Letter of Intent concerning The Presidency of the European Central Bank
-
Letter of Intent between the Chancellor and Under-Treasurer of Her Majesty's Exchequer of the Kingdom of Montenbourg to the Shareholders of the European Central Bank concerning The Presidential elections.
30 September 2021
Members of the European Central Bank,
At this moment of enormous significance the Union is coming together on talks about monetary policies and we should put forward our stances as shareholders upholding the law which abides us.
If we do not hold an election now their political game-playing will continue, and the duty of us to perform as shareholders will be diminished. It is our responsibility and we are doing nothing. At this moment a one-off chance to get this done while the European Council agrees its negotiating position and before the detailed talks begin. I have only recently and reluctantly come to this conclusion. I have concluded that the only way to guarantee certainty and stability for the years ahead is to hold this election and seek your support for the decisions we must take as shareholders of this Central Bank.
Sincerely,
Christine Lagarde de Lyon
Chancellor and Under-Treasurer of His Majesty's Exchequer of the Kingdom of Montenbourg
