Strathae General Election 2022
105 seats are up for grabs on a First Past the Post system with 1 seat for each Clan and a non-clan seats. The election is to be contested by four parties, The Clan Socialist Party , The Alternative, Party of Tradition and Democratic Reform Party. The parties can be put into two camps Clan Democracy Traditionalist which are respresented by the CSP and PoT and Reformist Camp represented by the Alternative and Democratic Reform Party. Economically CSP is Socialist while Alternative supports a much more mixed economy with PoT focusing on a mix of Cooperatives and SME's . Democratic Reform Party have mixed views among the members. The big issues of the election are press freedom, freedom of speech , freedom of protest as well as economic policy of whether the country should go more socialist or move in a more rightward direction economically. Religious policy is also an issue.Parties Contesting:
Party:Clan Socialist Party(Páirtí Sóisialach Chlann)
Leader:Róise Ní Fiannachta MacLuinge
Platform (According to party)
Economics:
Reform the economy to discourage private profiteering and expansion of big private businesses. Move to a revenue tax on private corporations of 5-10% while removing taxes on Co-operatives. Keep private enterprise out of several key strategic industries such as transport and utilities.Tax companies with more than one site more heavily if they are not at least 50% owned by workers while also banning anyone being a director, on the board or in management positions in more than one company.
Democracy, Freedom of Protest and Freedom of Speech:
We believe freedom of speech is important but that it is also important to protect privacy however The Alternative policies are too much. We will reform to allow protests outside of workplaces with the appropriate permits and publishing of workplace addresses if it there is no reason for this not to be allowed such as potential for stalking or it would put the persons safety in danger as long as such publication is in the public interest. Journalistic organisations will no longer be required to register beyond normal registering though will still be asked to send a copy of the stories if they include adresses and potentially private details just to see if it is in public interest to print the story and if there are privacy issues at stake. This shall not however cover publishing of names alone. We support a Clan Democracy system where each Clan gets 1 representative elected by a pluarity of the vote with 1 non-clan representative and only clan members can vote in local elections in clan territories. As such we would keep the current political system with no changes electorally for the future.
Religion
We very much value freedom of religion however we do believe that criticism is important when they fail to provide equality. However we must open a dialogue with the religions that do not do so rather than place too many restrictions, its up to society to protest them in a responsible manner. We will continue to protect worshippers from harassment with all protests near religious establishments to be policed. We will open up public funded spaces to religions outside of Breizhghism on important holidays and for religious or wedding ceremonies if they pay the rental fee like everyone else though this will be conditional on them meeting reasonable expectations of equality. We will also allow churches and mosques among others to be exempt from equality laws on gender, sex and sexuality though if they register to exempt themselves they shall lose any religious exemption on paying tax. We will also require Breizhighist denominations to allow men priests if they wish to keep their tax exemptions.Party:Party of Tradition (Páirtí an Traidisiúin)
Leader:Moira Ó Dubhshláin MacPheadair
Platform
Economics:
We will protect SME's in the economy opposing the the Revenue Tax which will damage the economy. We believe business isn't the enemy but instead small to medium businesses can foster innovation and changes and make a robust economy. We will continue to also support Co-operatives and Third Sector businesses as believe a balance of all types of businesses is important. We will foster competition against government monopolies.
Democracy, Freedom of Protest and Freedom of Speech:
The crackdown on freedom of speech and democracy has gone too far. We will drastically reform the privacy laws to only protect personal addresses and numbers and to only keep the doxing laws. Media organisations will no longer have to register above normal registration and will no longer have to have stories pre-approved. We will trust journalists to be responsible but still fine those who break the reformed privacy and doxing laws. We back the current electoral system and vow to protect it from change we must keep our democratic traditions.Religion
We will allow full freedom of religion within reason , we will also allow full freedom of speech though it must be noted this does not mean freedom from the consequences of such speech and society and organisations may protest such speech and disassociate with individuals for such speech just as much as the individual may express such thoughts. However faiths who discriminate in any way will face loss of the religious tax exemption . We will maintain the secularity of public owned and funded spaces by maintaining the requirement for religions to use their own buildings for religious events. There will however remain the exemption for state organised religious festivals in cooperation with the Breizhighist faiths so as to keep the traditional religious festivals. -
Leader:Searlait Mhic Cuairt Sgot
Platform
Economics:
We will protect SME's and Cooperatives from big corporations in key industries to the country and sectors where they are vulnerable such as farming and craft industries. We will however promote sales of green cars and focus on lowering costs of imports on what cannot be produced in Strathae economically. We will look at focusing the economy on the strengths our country has naturally and in human talent.
Democracy, Freedom of Protest and Freedom of Speech:
We must keep protections of minorities. We will continue all current laws on media and social media as well as doxing and privacy. We will tighten up loopholes requiring social media to crack down on derogratry and dangerous posts inciting violence or breaching ones privacy. This will include putting images of peoples faces online without permission. We will make it so everyone has copyright over their own face unless they are in a contract or a particular picture.Religion
We will allow freedom of religion and protect minority religions. Protections of minority religions must be strengthened with hate speech against religions banned. Of course reasonable criticism should be allowed but incitement of hate including using the word bigoted in relation to a religion should be banned as should any media or posts promoting derograty stereotypes. Differences in religious views must be respected and freedom of conscious without a threat to safe held dear.
Leader:Archie O'Mahony
PlatformDemocracy, Freedom of Protest and Freedom of Speech:
We will abolish or reform the clan system to promote true democracy. We will promote moving to a pure PR system with one national list to make all votes matter equally. We will promote restoration of freedom of speech once again allowing criticism of religion while keeping the doxing laws. We believe the current privacy laws go too far and are a threat to independent journalism.Religion
We will back any government that promotes freedom of religion for all including minorities and promote the idea of a truly secular state and abolishment of any religious involvement in legislation. -
