Chairman: Elias Larsen
Headquarters: FKEM Building, TrondheimFKEM is Fremet's leading exporter of furniture products. The Fremetian Consortium of Essential Furniture Producers, as it is known in English, was established in 1836 after the great collapse of the European furniture industry. From the ashes rose FKEM with its independent manufacturers uniting to sell their products all over Europe. Today, FKEM is owned by the Fremetian government. FKEM was nationalised in 1927, during the Red Icholasen's Occupation of Fremet, in order to prevent the total collapse of the furniture industry. FKEM remains under government stewardship to this day, where FKEM now operates as a special independent Crown Corporation, a non-profit dedicated to ensuring the lasting prosperity of the Fremetian furniture industry.
Today, FKEM is one of the largest furniture exporters in the world, sourcing furniture to fit any taste, style, size, or practical use. Its Chairman is elected by the producers, which each individual firm receiving one vote on deciding the chairman every 4 years. The organisation operates as a special crown corporation, where while FKEM is owned by the Fremetian government, the control over its operations is largely deferred to the FKEM. While the Chairman and Board of FKEM do not receive special compensation, the Fremetian Ministry of Commerce does cover the administrative expenses of FKEM. FKEM gets the rest of its operating income as a small percentage of each unit sold through a formula that takes into account the volume, overall price, type of furniture, and the cost of materials used.
The Fremetian furniture industry is dominated by small to mid size family owned and operated furniture makers, and participation in FKEM is optional for producers in Fremet. Even still, some 87% of the independent Fremetian furniture makers that export abroad do so through FKEM.
Larger furniture makers also export their products abroad through FKEM. Fremet's second largest furniture company, Helmsdorfer Møblerprodusenter AG, exports its furniture abroad through FKEM.
FKEM coordinates the distribution of hundreds of thousands of units of all kinds of furniture to countless retailers across Europe.
Within Fremet, FKEM does coordinate distribution to larger furniture retailers, but because a vast majority of furniture sales in Fremet are direct from local producers and through small stores that source independently, FKEM chooses instead to focus on connecting producers with points of sale and direct customers across Fremet, allowing for a wider array of producers and furniture designs to be available to local retailers and consumers.
