Hapag-Lloyd and MSC use freedom of navigation
Hapag Lloyd and MSC have used their freedom of navigation rights arguing that freedom of navigation means freedom to transit without taxes and checks. The companies have stopped service to Spain to reduce risk of exposure of ships being hit by Spanish hostility. The companies with ships registered outside of the Duchies in the Duxburian Union have refused to pay the 3% tariff on goods and are understood to not be reporting cargo. Experts have said that the reporting of cargo value and exact value of which goods are from which nation is not viable as there is so much data. The firms have reported no stops in the mediteranean so far but have plans to stop serving the mediteranean and transfer goods to other means such as cargo rail in Hellas if enforcement action was to impact operations and to challenge any stops of ships in the European Court of Justice.
