      Lost in Translation: Spain-Fremet Summit

      link text

      Trondheim, TG
      21 May 2021

It was a rainy day in Trondheim.

Erna was waiting patiently for the arrival of the Spanish Prime Minister at the Statsminister's offices in the Staatsrat. She looked forward to continuing her policy of "Forsiktig Tilnærming" in an effort to bring Europe to Fremet. Spain was a critical part of her plans to expand Fremetian influence abroad to counteract overtures made by the UNSR and establish an equitable footing to seek detante. Support from an influential continental nation would go far to bolster Fremetian foreign policy objectives and, hopefully, provide some benefits to Fremet's capital-starved economy.

When word came, she stood and approached the entry hall for special visitors to the Staatsminister to greet the Spanish delegation to the Fremetian Capital.

After coming back from the Nofoagan summit into Spain and spending some days looking to the local politics and taking care of the country he actually governed, believe it or not, the Spanish President Jesús Aguilar was back in the "Western European Diplomatic Tour". His last stop was Fremet, as Alkharya had decided to wait until the summer for a meeting between his country and the Atlantic islands close to the Holy See and Spain. Aguilar was carried to Torrejón de Ardoz airbase by car and then the Presidential Plane or Falcon took off towards Trondheim.

During the flight, Aguilar was thinking on how great would visiting Fremet be. In his personal opinion, the brand new Republic of Fremet and old Kingdom of Fremet was a very incredible country, which had been friendly to Spain since it joined the European Union; but also a very strategical, valuable ally for Spain. Not many trusted on the success of the Treaty of Finisterre, but Fremet did and they managed to sign it together. "Mr. President, please remember to avoid mentioning the Spanish Roayl Household or any Royal Household of Europe; Fremet is now a republic and we should not talk about those sensible topics"; said one of the President's secretaries. Aguilar answered: "Of course, I'm not new to these kind of situations and I already had thought about that, but thank you very much Alexandra!". He then went back to his papers until the captain informed they were due to land in the Fremetian capital city.

The Falcon was instructed to park in a remote parking at Trondheim airport and the motorcade was already waiting for the Spanish delegation, which arrived at the estimated time. Before exiting the plane, Jesús Aguilar commented with his aides and his own cabinet how punctual and formal the Fremetians were, a thing he loved. He finally got off the plane, greeted his car driver and the motorcade made its way to the Stratsminister's offices in the Straatsrat. He was left in front of the door that led into the special visitors hall, which he went across to finally meet Erna and speak: "Ms. Solberg, it is an honour to meet you, you look so great! How are you feeling today?"

Erna bowed before the Spanish president. "Welcome to the Republic of Fremet. I am doing quite alright, and I do hope that you could say the same for yourself. Come, we will continue with the pleasantries when we get to the great hall."

A long table made from sturdy walnut was centered in the hall. Various vines and flowering plants lied the heights of the vaulted ceilings beneath patterned skylights, which allowed the sun to brighten the room. The windows facing the Port of Trondheim were recessed, allowing for a small sitting area behind the larger table.

Erna gestured to Aguilar to take his seat at the table, facing the port— and Erna.
