#WideAwakePiane - The Daggot Campaign
-
-
-
Wide Awake Icon, Piane Daggot took to the stage in Europolis, which was also being streamed online.
'Hello Europolis ! Hello Europe !' She said. 'This is the launch of my campaign to be Europe's next Internal Affairs Commissioner. I want to make my 3 most important policy commitments very clear, and the format for my campaign.
My first policy proposal is to divert funding from the ESA directly into sustainable local industries, making home-grown products available for cheaper, and thus reducing the CO2 emissions from cargo ships. This directly attacks 2 root issues in our societies - unemployment or underemployment, and the climate crisis. But it also would not increase the tax burden on EU nations, as it is just relocating existing funding to projects that are much more useful.
My next policy proposal, is to ensure workers have representation on boards. Europe is committed to democracy, but for some reason that democracy ends as soon as you enter your place of work. We need to tackle this issue on the European level, to make sure that the collective bargaining power of Europeans remains strong, and employers cannot just leave or relocate production to countries with less robust rules on this issue. Solidarity between workers will be one of my utmost priorities.
And my final priority is ensuring peace. One of the most important jobs of the IAC is to work with nations to fight for peaceful relations. Sanders' work with Fremet shows that peace IS possible, and as IAC I would not pursue belligerent policies towards the UNSR or anyone on the European level, and call for peace and cooperation.
And, finally, my campaign, in order to save CO2 and be much more accessible to everyone, will be conducted via hologram. I will be beamed across the continent, and see everyone via video link. I can't wait to see you all and 'meet' you all. Thank you for your time today.'
-
Piane Daggot uses hologram technology to beam an image of herself to Tromsø in Fremet
'Fremetians !' Daggot said, enthused. 'This island has a proud history, and I am so proud of where Fremet is today. I am also proud of Bernie Sanders and our government for finally acknowledging the role our nation had in some of the worst atrocities of this island. I will say again, we are sorry. The European Union has the potential to be an organisation that ensures this never happens again, but I need your help to make that happen. The European Union has increasingly tried to marginalise the UNSR, going against its own constitution which states that any nations may join. As Sanders visit shows, the UNSR wants peace. But unfortunately the current EU administration and EPA are denying it that chance. The UNSR wants to cooperate across these islands. But this is currently encumbered by the EU. This does not mean that this can never change - if you elect me as your Internal Affairs Commissioner, it will send a strong message that the people of Fremet - arguably the most affected people by this continued belligerent policy, do not approve. I sincerely hope you use the opportunity of your vote as a vote for peace and cooperation.
But it isn't just about foreign policy. I want to see legislation to mandate worker representation on boards across Europe, so that Fremet's system where workers are prioritised is not disadvantaged by nations where this is not the case. I want to see less funding for bloated and irrelevant projects, and more funding for projects that help local and sustainable manufacturing like in furniture, for example.' She winked obviously. 'One of my policies to do this, is to divert funding from the ESA and directly into the hands of sustainable homegrown industries to make sure well paid jobs are maintained, and we reduce the CO2 emissions that come from shipping goods. It is imperative we get value for European taxpayers, and also improve lives in Europe and make a difference.
I will now take any questions from the press.’
From SR1: 'With the signing of the Treaty of Finisterre, the rise of the Telum Pact, and ongoing negotiations in Mennrimiak, how would you approach growing economic pacts forming outside the purview of the European Union?’
‘I believe nations have the sovereignty and thus the right to do this. I think the participation in economic globalisation must be the choice of groups of member states to partake in, it should not be forced on members. Individual nations are free to do what they please.'
From NRK: 'Will you be endorsing a candidate for the Premiership?’
'Absolutely, I wholeheartedly endorse Sofie Čikarová for the Premiership. She is fierce and a legend. Sofierce has my vote !
From Die Zeit: 'How would your environmental objectives affect the Fremetian hydroponics and high-density farming industry?'
'I strongly believe nations should be able to choose how they farm. My policies on climate won’t seek to limit or ban certain countries’ practises, like some of my interlocutors. Rather, I would propose to give nations the tools to help them transition away from any practises they sought to move away from. The key element is choice. In a net 0 society, there will still be polluting elements and some practises we just cannot live without. I would like European countries to have the utmost agency in these hard decisions. It isn’t for Europe to make those choices for countries and impose arbitrary rules that are certainly not one size fits all. But, the EU should offer way more support. Right now, the EU is paying for polluting rockets and the desecration of land and forests for space ports, paying for the mining of materials and fuels for useless rockets. Surely, we could use this money to pay for terrestrial pursuits like green industries right here in Fremet, instead of burning money. It’s time people saw a benefit from EU membership, rather than literally pie in the sky ideas from Biden et al.'

Rangentazavaz, @Ruthund , Via Hologram
"Hello Ruthund !" She paused for effect. "I hear this city is hosting Eurovoice ?? Congratulations !! My home city, Cesae Vauvra, has hosted it in the 1980s and the 2010s. It truly is a great contest that brings all of Europe together. This is, in fact, the raison d'être of my campaign - to bring Europe together. In this region of the EU, we need to establish dialogue and peace. We need to calm tensions, to then begin to work on the huge issues that face us. Climate change - especially as a region surrounded by coast, inequality, fishing. Do you think that the other candidates really offer a credible chance at fostering peace in this region ? Do you think Biden or Granger, Leeson or Areai, will stand a chance ? I don't think these candidates are credible in this field."
"But I am certainly not a single issue candidate. I, and my PEL colleagues, have a wide policy agenda that will benefit every people across Europe and in Ruthund. The first of these is to invest in local industries and local production, to increase production of vital goods across Europe, cut CO2 emissions from shipping, and reduce unemployment. This is simple, but effective policy proposal that I believe will benefit the lives of people across Europe."
"Secondly, we will ensure that workers' rights are upheld throughout Europe, so that nations are not punished and their goods and services are not undercut by places where these rules are less strict. This will have a direct benefit for all nations, even if their standards already reach the threshold we will adopt."
"And lastly, we want to see more worker representation on boards. This is useful as it allows for democracy to grow in the workplace which is a great thing. And, again, even in nations where these rights are already strong, this will make Europe a level playing field for all commerce, large, medium and small."
"Thank you so much for you time. But now, enough about the elections. I hope Eurovoice 41 is super fun, and I wish I could be part of the celebrations in person. Unfortunately, I did not wake up on time to get my tickets on Ticketmaster. I will, however, be watching on the television. Thank you Ruthund !"

Port Beauharnais, @Nofoaga , Via Hologram
"Hello Port Beauharnais !" Piane said, pronouncing the name of the beautiful city relatively well. French was one of the two languages spoken on the island of Icholasen, but Piane was a native Nicoleizian speaker. "It is so great to "be" here, via hologram. I would like to briefly explain how I would help this great nation within Europe.
"We want to invest, on the European level, in the production of goods here in Nofoaga. This will increase employment, GDP, and a range of other economic factors. However, this does not only help the economy."
"This policy means that we can protect oceans by limiting the number of large or medium vessels coming here to be a minimum. This will help protect marine life and also the wider planet by limiting CO2 emissions, and reducing the length of some supply chains. Of course there must still be trade, and we will support your right to trade freely. But, to help the planet, wildlife, and the atmosphere, we must limit this as much as possible."
"Instead of being overly punitive and writing rules all the way in Europolis, we will invest and give money to societies right here in Nofoaga."
"I strongly agree with your decision on cruise ships for this reason, and the under mine and Sofie Čikarová's leadership, we will help support economies with strong environmental and workers' rights. We want to make sure you can remain competitive without having to undercut the rights you have pushed so valiantly for in your own country."
"Climate change is a huge issue for island and coastal nations like Nofoaga, and also Icholasen. I am the only candidate with a credible policy for Nofoaga and nations outside of mainland Europe. Granger has, in passing, discussed the Eurorail project, but my policy on increasing production within EU states is unique in that it will decrease carbon emissions for all countries, not just ones in mainland Europe. This is significant as I hope that the work you are doing is being appreciated across the Union, and that island nations can and must also be included and supported as a part of the solution to climate change and ocean pollution."
"I am so happy to have been able to visit your country virtually. One day, I hope to visit to enjoy your beautiful country in person. Thank you so much for listening. Please vote for Piane Daggot in for Internal Affairs Commissioner !!"

“Hello DU ! It is so great to visit you by hologram.
My main campaign point is that EU nations will NOT have to pay more money into the EU budget. But, they will see more investment. This will be achieved by eliminating useless EU projects, such as the ESA, that is paid to regulate the space industry - why should your own money go to telling you what to do ? The DU and other nations will get more money back under a PEL administration, and will get more agency in deciding how it is spent.
I would also try my utmost to allow nations to make their own decisions on a range of issues. I sympathise with the DU's grievances to the 'one size fits all policy' of the EU in terms of certain social issues, pushed largely by the EPA and Granger. This policy has also lead to the DU being forced to sanction nations it may not have wanted to.
This has to stop, and Duxburian agency in their own foreign affairs needs to begin once more.
I’d also like to address something said by Peter Leeson recently. He said that EU nations should be free to only pay for what EU institutions they want to. This sounds great. But Leeson does not have the power to do this unilaterally. It would have to pass through the Council and requires a larger majority to amend the constitution. It undoubtedly will not pass this threshold. My proposal, on the other hand, has broad support across the EU, and could pass the Council.
My own commitment to let EU nations see more of their money is achievable. Leeson’s is not. Period.
EU politics is about - or should be about - what is possible, not promising things you know you can’t achieve to get votes - it's cynical.
As well as their unrealistic politicking, voting for Leeson or Biden could risk letting Granger in, someone who will no doubt try and increase the burden on member-states, which would achieve precisely the opposite effect you might hope to achieve by voting for Leeson. As for Biden, I'm not sure anyone knows what he stands for.
I am in the strongest position to beat Granger. Currently, Granger is on 7 votes in the polls, and I am on 3. Though there is a certainly a large gap there, Leeson and Biden are polling on 2 which is an even bigger discrepancy. I am also polling closer in more countries than them -- in Fremet and Ruthund, for instance. There are also just as many nations that are tossups as Granger has locked down - your vote has power in this election, and I am a firm foundation to launch resistance to the EPA.
The more people vote for me, the higher a preference in the DU I become, and the more likely I am to stop Granger. My policy package is also more likely to get more money back into the hands of Duxburians.
And so, with your help, we can stop EPA hegemony, show that we disagree with their out of touch laws that make little sense to the DU, and, fundamentally, tell the EU’s establishment that we are unhappy with the status quo.
And so, the decision is clear. Vote for someone who can win, whose policies can work, and who can protect the DU's national interests.
Thank you for your time.”

Piane arrives via Hologram in InquistHER
"HELLO EVERYBODY !!" Piane shouted to the popping off crowd, cheering like a thunderstorm mixed with a jackhammer mixed with another thunderstorm. Piane's campaign song, Savage, by Meghan Thee Stallion played as she teleported onto the stage. "Thank you so much Sofierce and your Bishopship for welcoming me here today.
Let's start off with the problems facing InquistHER. Society can be unequal. How many prada bags does Mikaela Klingenberg have ? And how many avocado toast breakfasts can she have per day ? Probably more than 8 for each of those. But you, the common people, can't afford the necessities, like Eurovoice tickets, or Carlos themed tote-bags.
The PEL will make sure that the European and the global economy works for YOU.
People say 'Oh Inquista is so rich there are no poor people.' -- But there are poor people - there are everywhere. I believe that in Inquista, as part of the teachings of the Church and other ideas, people believe that the world should be equal. The Archbishop has been in the UNSR and her message has really resonated with people. I hope to share in this message of equality, love and happiness for all Europeans.
But, what policies will the PEL offer you ?
Firstly, we will ensure worker representation on boards. Why should democracy end when you enter the workplace ? I am a fighter for the majority of people who are workers. But, I think that my policy will help the private sector, not hinder it at all. With more worker representation, productivity will undoubtedly increase as the needs of workers will be met more and more.
We also plan to invest in European countries. This will increase productivity - a great thing - and make countries' economies stronger. This will help people in a crisis, with the maximum homegrown goods as possible, meaning that no hoarding, protectionism or other bad market tactics could stop Inquista, or any other nation, responding to such a crisis with ease.
We need to do things differently, and we need to move away from the status quo. The EPA have achieved a lot, and I respect them greatly. However, a new era must begin.
Please, allow me and Sofierce the chance to try and make Europe a better place. Thank you so much for your help."

Hannkkara, Mennrimiak
"Hello Mennrimiak ! It is so great to "be" here via hologram. You are a busy and industrious people, so I will sum up my points succinctly, unlike Juncker's lectures.
I will make sure Mennrimiak receives more investment from the EU - without having to pay more. There are plenty of savings we can make in the budget that will ensure that you guys get a better deal from Europe.
My policies will also make sure that nations who are not in mainland Europe, like my own, are represented fairly in spending .The EPA supports rail projects that, obviously, will not connect Mennrimiak to Europe as we are unfortunately only connected with love and respect, and not land.
My investment will allow all European countries to get more money to invest in more transport, investment, and other things that they choose. I will not use your money to pay for transport that most people here will not get a chance to use - like the EPA will.
We will ensure that your workers get more rights - a thing I'm sure everyone wants.
And finally, we will end the hegemony of the EPA - I am the only candidate who has a chance to beat the EPA's candidate in this election - I really hope you will vote for me as your first or second preference to achieve this.
Please vote for me for Internal Affairs Commissioner, and Sofie Čikarová for Premier. Thank you so much."
-
Porterdam, United Duchies
"Hello United Duchies !
The PEL is offering you a chance to say no to the elites of Europe and the world. A chance to get a better deal for your country in the globalised world. And a chance for pragmatic, commonsense labour and industrial relations policy.
How are we going to achieve this ?
Firstly, by voting for me, I have a much better chance of beating the EPA's elitist candidate. I only need to get a higher preference than Emma Granger to give me a chance to succeed, and succeed for you.
But, I wouldn't want you just to vote against elites, though this is incredibly important and I will stop the elites' march through Europe.
I will get the United Duchies a better deal in this globalised world, with investment funding for manufacturing here in the UD increased.
I will try and work to make sure workers across Europe have the same great standards for work as in the United Duchies, so that Duchies exports are not undercut by countries with lower standards.
Please, help me do this by voting for me in the upcoming Internal Affairs Commission election, and vote for my co-lister, Sofie Čikarová.
-
Hemberdale, Gadalland and Aspern
"Hello Hemberdale !" Piane said, beaming in via hologram in order to save on carbon emissions. "It is so great to be here in one of our newer nations. Congratulations on your entry in our union in May ! We are so glad to have you in our Union - what a beautiful city Hemberdale is from what I can see on my screen. I hope that one day, after these elections are over I can come and visit this city as Internal Affairs Commissioner.
I would like to offer you my plan for Europe. It is one where all nations receive investment from the European Union to develop their independent economies, to strengthen their right to national self-determination within a Union of cooperation, to make sure that Europeans have certain inalienable rights that cannot be infringed upon.
A safe, harmonious EU is achievable and I believe I am best place to offer this, I will make sure that all nations are brought along with me in the pursuit of peace.
This is why I need your support here in Gadalland and Aspern. I know you share these values, you want the best for your people in a wider European Community, and you want certain rights to be afforded to all people.
Please, support me and Sofie Čikarová in the upcoming commission elections !"
-
-
"Hello Leagio ! It is great to be BOTH in Port Hilson and Tullion at the same time ! Travelling by hologram can be excellent to meet new people and also save CO2 emissions. I'd first like to express my gratitude for this virtual hospitality. I feel very welcome.
I would first like to congratulate President Mouri-Kudo for winning her karate tournament. Congratulations, I hope you get your black belt soon, Madame President, if you are not already a master !
Leagio received investment as part of a European loan, and my policies would extend even more funding to Leagio, via my policy to improve the economies of nationstates. This will be achieved by getting rid of wasteful EU spending, and putting it to some real use for real people.
Leagio will be a full recipient of this aid.
I believe that the economies of Europe need to be individually strong producers of goods, so that we can cut CO2 emissions from container ships and other transport, and decrease unemployment. I am the only candidate offering a credible policy on improving Leagio's -- and the whole of Europe's -- financial situation.
Leagio is geographically sidelined, but my policy will make Leagio part of the centre of Europe. No nation will be barred from receiving funds from my programme, or from any of my policy proposals.
One problem with the EPA's Eurorail project, for example, was that it may not have reached out to the further out nations of Europe. This was unfortunate. I pledge that whether you are from an island nation, from a nation far from the centre, or from a nation in the geographical heart of Europe, you will receive the same benefits from my term in the commission.
And, is it not also the right time for a change ? The EPA have dominated the Commission for a very long time. I want a fresh, new voice in Europolis, for the people.
I hope that you give me the chance to transform Europe, to make it greener, more productive, and more just.

Piane visiting the United Duchies, Ruthund, Gadalland & Aspern, Inquista, Fremet, Mennrimiak, Nofoaga, the DU, Czech Slavia, Pravoslaviya, and Leagio simultaneously via hologram, and also streamed online to all countries
"Hello everyone !" Piane said, to the several crowds of people before her in multiple countries. "It is so great to give one last final visit to the nations of Europe.
I want to spend the last moments before you cast your votes telling you that you matter. You are important. And as your IAC I will fight for YOU in Europolis. The others are fighting for themselves.
Don't listen to the naysayers who say we can't fix climate change, that we can't return power and money to the nationstates of the EU, that we can't make the EU a better Union. I profoundly reject these stances.
We will turn Europe on its head. We will end EPA dominance - which is good for democracy. We need a change at the top, to bring changes to the bottom. And I'm not talking about Prince Tommy. I am best positioned to do deliver that change.
But my ideals, in practise, are not far fetched. Everything I have put in my policy proposal is achievable. That's a key-word. I admire Mr. Leeson a lot, and I share some of his goals, such as returning more agency to the individual states. But the way he plans to do it is not going to work. His plans would require a constitutional amendment, which I, unfortunately, do not believe he will be able to pass.
My policies have a far greater chance of returning funds and power to you, the people of Europe.
Investment in local industries to reduce pollution from trade, create jobs, create sustainable development, will democratise this Union. Cutting wasteful spending will fund this initiative so that it isn't regular Europeans who pay.
Thank you so much for listening, United Duchies, Ruthund, Gadalland & Aspern, Inquista, Fremet, Mennrimiak, Nofoaga, DU, Czech Slavia, Pravoslaviya, Leagio and everywhere else !! Please, get out and vote for a better Europe !!!!

One Last Stop Off
"Hello DU - again ! This is my third 'visit', and I am so happy to be here again.
The elections are popping off all over Europe - and I need your help to make sure that the EU is represented by someone who both believes in returning sovereignty from Europolis, and someone who can return this sovereignty to your people -- and all European people.
Think of the shock that mine (and Sofie Čikarová's) election would bring to Europolis. The EPA and their allies would be forced to listen to Duxburians for the first time in a long time.
Often the DU is ignored and sidelined in these elections -- candidates from the EPA and their allies used to be certain that they could win these elections without consulting the EU's largest nation. Their path to power went a different route. Don't let them ignore you !
I have included the DU and its priorities at the heart of my campaign - ideals such as sovereignty, a respect and an appreciation for cultures that are different.
And so I need to earn every single Duxburian vote I can.
I see where Leeson voters are coming from, and I do agree with him on some EU constitutional matters. But his policies are just not feasible -- a constitutional amendment is a real feat to achieve. Čikarova's potential power to propose a budget is another method to promote change, and my influence within the Commission will be a bonus to achieving a budget that returns more money to our nationstates.
And so, it's a simple proposition: vote for me for achievable reforms which will return sovereignty, and equally as importantly, money. Or, vote for Leeson or Biden who might let Granger in through the back door.
The choice is clear. Vote for a real change, vote for someone who will shake up EU politics for the better.
