    • RE: EuroVoice 43 - Results show

The twelve entries play, one after the other, in the wonderful stage set up inside the belly of the former cargo vessel. Thanks to a detailed work by technicians during the months prior, the insides have been insulated effectively so that the reverberation of the iron clad is almost inaudible.

Andrea Mandrais: After listening to these wonderful songs, it is time to vote. Europe, let's decide!

After half an hour of replays of the entries and a light comedy segment for the in-person audience at MS Kaap Westland, it is time to know what spectators have decided.

AM: You, our dear watchers, have already spoken. Now it is time for us to unwrap your voice for everyone to see. Therefore, let's begin with the vote counting. It is time to connect with our first vote deliverer. Dua Lipa, live from the United Kingdom!

DL: Hello Europe! Our viewers have voted and these are the results. On third position, with 8 points, comes... our host INELAND! Coming in second, with 10 points comes... SPAIN! And in the first place, our 12 points are awarded to... ELTHIZE!

      alt text

AM: Thank you so much dear Dua, and see you soon! With this first round of votes Elthize takes the leading spot with 12 points, followed up by Spain with 10 points, Ineland with 8, and Oregon with 7 points. Now let's go to our second round of voting. Good evening Reitzmag!

WS GM: Good evening Andrea, good evening Zeevorde, good evening Europe! We're so happy to see you all from our wonderful studios in Reitzmag! Let's get this going. Without further ado, here come the points from our country. Our third place eight points have been awarded to... ICHOLASEN! Our second place, with ten points, goes to... VAYINAOD! And last, but not least, our first place twelve points go to... YOSAI!

      Reitzmag votes

AM: Thanks you very much Wesley and our warmest greeting to you and the Reitzmic people. After Reitzmag's scores have come in, the tally changes substantially. Ineland and Spain come in a tie for the third place with 13 points each. Second place comes Oregon, with 14 points. And speeding up to the top spot comes Yosai, with 16 points.

And off we go to our third round of scores of the night. Live from Saint Dominico we're connecting with Madame Marco for Inquista's scores. Good evening my dear!

MM: Hello Andrea, and hello Zeevorde and Europe! Tonight we've seen amazing shows and heard amazing music, but as with everything it's time to choose. And of course Inquistans couldn't remain silent about it. Here comes our scores!

On third place, our eight points go to... OREGON! Coming in second, our ten points go to... CZECH SLAVIA! And finally, on first place our twelve points go to... ICHOLASEN! Coming back to you Andrea, good night Europe!

      Inquista's scores

AM: Thank you so much Madame Marco. After our first three rounds of voting I think we can agree to say "What a night!". With the latest points, the tally changes dramatically again. After receiving null points from Inquista, Yosai falls from first to the sixth place with 16 points, while Ineland stays in the fight for the third place but this time with Elthize with 19 points each, with Spain falling to the fifth with 18 points. Oregon stays up high with 22 points, tied for the first position with Icholasen that finds itself propelled to the fight for the top spot with 22 points as well.

      MS Kaap Westland, Zeevorde (Ineland)

Dear Europe, welcome to Zeevorde for the 43rd edition of the EuroVoice Song Contest! I am Andrea and I will be your host for tonight's show, broadcasting live from former cargo ship MS Kaap Westland. IRT-RTI has been working hard in the past few months alongside Zeevorde municipality in order to adapt this former oceanfaring vessel and transform it into an awesome stage for our music show.

Through the next hours we will be listening, seeing and, especially, enjoying the 12 entries in this year's edition. Without further ado, let us navigate music together from our floating stage and find out what is Europe's favourite song.

King Jean announces his intent on abdicating the crown

      alt text

Hugo METTERNICHT (Hautcour) | During a televised speech yesterday, king Jean IV announced his intention to abdicate the throne of Ineland by the end of the summer after a 37 year reign. During his speech, his majesty alluded to his age as an essential factor in his decision.

Jean Marie Charles de Mérignac-Ponton, who was prince of Sousair prior to his election to the throne in 1985 after the death of Martin II, has been the king of the Inelanders for well over three and a half decades. During this period, the United Principalities have undergone a series of deep social changes, as well as the further development of the federal system introduced under the 1969 amendment to the constitution. Jean has been the third French-speaking monarch of the country after his great-grandfather, Jean III (1921-1925), and Guillaume VI (1925-1939).

His majesty is turning 70 years next September 27, which is the presumed date of his effective abdication. Once the act is made official, the Seneschal of the House of Electors will summon the leaders of the 31 states of Ineland to meet for an urgent electoral session of the upper chamber. This abdication is legally possible due to a 1983 amendment to the constitution that introduced this possibility to allow for Martin II to leave the throne due to his declining health. However, Martin died before he could abdicate himself, which will thus make Jean the first monarch in modern Inelandic history to abdicate.

      Ineland wins EuroVoice 42

      alt text

Hugo METTERNICHT (Trondheim) | After what surely was a long yet exciting night for Clara Luciani, the Inelandic singer won EuroVoice 42 which took place tonight at the city of Trondheim in Fremet.

Ineland struggled to keep the 4th position in the initial result announcement, but soon went into a three-way competition with Nofoaga and Icholasen (the Free one) for first place. However, our entry slowly increased its lead while the next 5 entries started switching positions in the leaderboard until mathematical victory was achieved when the penultimate result came in. In the end, Ineland finished first with 96 points, followed by Istkalen as second with 82 points and Icholasen as third with 76. Host Fremet came in tenth with 54 points.

      alt text

With tonights win, Ineland is expected to host the 43rd edition of the European Union's song contest and contacts between the EUBC and state broadcaster RTI-IRT are already underway in order to start planning. Sandrine Meckelmans, an RTI-IRT spokesperson, has already said that a bidding process will be taking place with a host city being announced later this month.

      centered paragraph

Response to the address by the Spanish Prime Minister

In light of the aggressive and threatening remarks by the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Spain, Jesús Aguilar, with regards to the Ineland-sponsored Freedom of Navigation Act that is currently being debated in the European Council, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has adopted the following measures:

      • Recalling of the Ambassador of the United Principalities of Ineland to the Kingdom of Spain for consultations for an undefined period of time;
      • Partial suspension of all economic cooperation with the Kingdom of Spain;
      • Cancellation of all negotiations on military hardware acquisition from the Kingdom of Spain.

On behalf of the Government of the United Principalities of Ineland, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to express its utmost shock at the attitudes expressed by the Government of the Kingdom of Spain. The Government considers that membership of an organisation such as the European Union entails a series of obligations, such as proper debate and democratic handling of disputes through appropriate channels, which the Government of the Kingdom of Spain doesn't seem keen on abiding by.

European Council debates recognition of UNSR

      alt text

INELAND_INFO (Europolis) | This week, the European Council is debating on a motion to recognise the Union of Nicholeizian Socialist Republics as the sovereign government of Icholasen. The motion, tabled by Council speaker and councillor for Istkalen, Iras Tilkanas, calls for the UNSR to assume Icholasen's roles in institutions and organisations as well as its membership of the European Union.

The motion has sparked fierce debate in the chamber, as councillors have expressed concerns with regards to the status of the United Dominions of Icholasen, or Free Icholasen as its government in exile is known. James Mizrachi-Roscoe, councillor for the United Duchies, has expressed that the UNSR should only be recognised as a member if Free Icholasen is recognised as a member as well, while also casting his worry about recognising a government borne out of a coup d'état.

While the opinions of councillors opposing recognition of the UNSR are varied, the voices supporting the motion seem to clearly share the view that such a move to incorporate the UNSR into the EU comes out of an exercise of realpolitik and an attempt at normalising relations with the de facto government that is exercising its authority over the territory of a member state. Councillor for Ineland, Prince Charles of Linthaut, made it clear in his intervention in the Council chamber:

"For the sake of peaceful coexistence in our region and normalised diplomatic relations with the de facto government of Icholasen, Ineland welcomes this motion and expresses its support for it. Even though we may hold our ideological differences with the UNSR, we believe it is in everyone's interest to welcome them back into the European family."

This position is shared by the government of Ineland. Kasper Merckx, Minister of Foreign Affairs, has said in the past days that, should the opportunity arise, "the UNSR should be welcomed into the European Union" as a full member state. Sources from within the government also pointed out at the possiblities for cooperation should the UNSR be recognised by the EU, like the construction of a high-speed railway tunnel under the strait separating Icholasen and Ineland that would help place Ineland as a hub for railway transportation in the region.

      • Enterprise des Micro-ordinateurs (Emior)

Franchises bidding for(May only get 1 at end): Central 2, Southern 3
      TOC name: FastLink
Companies owning by share percentage: SICF (55%), Reynauld (35%), SINA (5%), Emior (5%)

      About Companies:

      • SICF: Ineland's public railway operator, founded in 1937. Since early this year it has been operating a high-speed rail service between three of the country's largest metropolitan areas with its tilting trains. It will be operating rail services within FastLink.
      • Reynauld: Private railway manufacturing and engineering company. Will be in charge of providing high-speed tilting trainsets, 600-seat Reynauld Axe, with the aim of increasing maximum operational speed on the existing tracks. If granted the C2 franchise, will be in charge of line improvements to achieve the desired speed increase.
      • SINA: Ineland's state airline. Its participation in the TOC will offer passengers intermodal capabilities and the option to jointly acquire rail and plane tickets making use of SINA's operations from Cair Para (C2), Hamborg (C2, S3) and Porterdam (S3) airports.
      • Emior: Ineland's most well known computer manufacturing and software services company. It will be in charge of the digital design and management aspects of the TOC like trainset software, ticket acquisition services (online and on site) and internal customer-focused services within the trains.

Frequency: Given ridership estimation and calculated operation times, the aim is to reach a frequency of 10 departures per hour in each direction and route at Central 2, using double trainsets in 40% of services to increase capacity while keeping freqüencies within a reasonable amount, with first departures at 5am and last departures 8.59pm. When it comes to Southern 3, frequencies would be of 4 departures per hourd in each direction under the same conditions expressed for Central 2, with a reevaluation of frequencies after the first 6 months of franchise to adapt frequencies to ridership evolution.
Service plans: Upgrade to 365kmh top speed (on C2) by performing gradual track replacements over a 5 year period on specific segments to cause minimal disruption to services. Besides infrastructure adaptation, tilting technology on the trainsets will allow for high speeds on the already existing tracks and time saving at station approach by keeping higher speeds. Service will be realised with 600-seat (on a 2-2 seater configuration) Reynauld Axe trainsets including onboard wifi and television, restaurant car, first-class meeting room facilities and café service. A new system of fast ticket acquisition will be implemented at platforms, with an easy three step process: destination, number of passengers and payment, with seats being automatically assigned and delivered on a basic print ticket. Online and in-station ticket machine booking will include an option to buy multimodal tickets linking FastLink services with SINA flights out of Cair Para (C2), Hamborg (C2, S3) and Porterdam (S3) airports, allowing for passengers of long- and medium-distance flights to better arrange their trips, also allowing for the acquisition of SICF train tickets with a discount (up to 15%) if their flight destination is in Ineland.

      History

      Early human settlers

The oldest recorded instances of human presence can be found in Coomglenn cave, on the Witteberg mountains at northern Ineland. Small improvised tools have been found in that site, being dated by Carbon 14 testing as being approximately 35.000 years old. However, academics believe that humans arrived in the area much earlier, coming through the south and with first regular human presence occuring in or around the wide forested region, close to the country's southern border. Unfortunately, most records of such activity are believed to be gone due to intensive agricultural activity and forestry over the centuries.

First permanent communities and the establishment of early political entities: the era of the mene

Latest archaeological evidence suggests that the first permanent settlements were established by fishing communities in the marshlands on the eastern side of lake Gra during the Neolithic period, around the seventh millenium BCE. Evidence suggests that those settlements engaged in some early form of trade amongst each other, which eventually led to the establishment of what has been dubbed by scholars as the era of the "communalities" or mene. These mene were originally loose alliances established by a series of communities located within close proximity, but eventually evolved into more complex structures that provided joint governance and worked on a common set of rules. Over time, these oral tradition-based rules gave way to the creation of Ancient Inish customary law.

[LOTS OF ANCIENT, MEDIEVAL AND EARLY MODERN HISTORY TBC HERE]

Times of revolt: the 1819 revolution

The early decades of the nineteenth century proved to be trying times for the kingdom. After centuries of existence, the antiquated social structures of the elective monarchy were starting to crack under the heavy weight of an ever increasing urban population and the initial stages of the industrial revolution. These social issues, coupled with an economic depression triggered by a series of failed colonial adventures overseas, led to extreme instability. General unrest finally exploded in the form of violent revolts in Hautcour and Aigues Calmes. These soon expanded into other urban areas around the country, with some examples of extreme violence occuring such as the overthrowing and public beheading of the Bishop of Zeevorde and the hanging of Guillaume de Legline, prince of Poiret.

In an attempt to calm the situation down, king Gabriel II called for the election and convening of the Estates General, a deliberative assembly under Inish legislation which provided a forum for the different social classes to consult and advise the monarch on several issues. Out of the 1820 Estates General came a series of petitions for the monarch and the prince-electors under the name of the "25 points of july" which listed several demands on political liberalisation, the most important being the calling of a constituent assembly to draft and vote on a constitution.

The "25 points" spurred intense debate in the royal court, but eventually king Gabriel and the prince-electors gave way and accepted the issued demands. On December 1st, 1820, the Constituent National Assembly convened in the Town Hall at Geldenstadt. After four months of deliberations and work in several committees, on June 1821 the king was presented with what's come to be known as the Lenau Constitution. This first constitution for Ineland, which established a parliamentary system under a bicameral structure, ensured the political representation the newly developed urban bourgoise groups had been looking for while also guaranteeing a continued relevance for the prince-electors.

Social change and struggle for further rights

In spite of the newly-achieved political and civil rights brought upon by the Lenau constitution, wide parts of society remained underrepresented or outright ignored in the political process. Women, industrial workers, farmers... Groups making up more than 75% of the population were de facto deprived of their basic right to political participation due to household franchise suffrage. From the mid-1840's several organisations of women and workers, such as the Front Ouvrier Leglandais, initiated a series of campaigns to claim their rightful place in society. The increasing pressure led the government and parliament to pass legislation extending suffrage to all adults above the age of 25. However, women and non-homeowning males were still left out of passive suffrage. This last hurdle towards fully equal political participation was finally eliminated with the passing of the Voter Enfranchisement Law in 1885.

Times of trouble: De Meer's dictatorship and the Inish civil war (1924 - 1927)

The economic collapse of 1912 threw the country into disarray. While the federal government was incapable of handling the situation, some of the principalities took matters into their own hands, many times exceeding their constitutionally-defined powers. The implementation of wide-ranging economic stimulus programmes by state governments put the federal government in a fragile situation. In the 1914 general election an authoritarian movement, the Fatherland Union, was organised around the figure of Vilan de Meer and achieved a plurality of seats in the lower house. However, a progressive government under the leadership of Rémi Delmer was set up by the Labour Party and the newly-created Workers' Front (WF), which also saw a surge in support during that election. The new government was overwhelmed by the severity of the economic situation and didn't manage to regain its constitutional competences in financial and economic policy back from the principalities. This failure led to a snap election taking place in 1917, which saw de Meer's movement increase its share of votes and get its leader elected Prime Minister with support from the conservative groups.

De Meer's government quickly initiated a public works programme under the 'Strong Economy, Strong Society' scheme in order to curb massive unemployment. At the same time however, de Meer enforced a hardcore authoritarian programme through extensive surveillance by federal police forces. In the first six months of his mandate, politically-motivated street violence skyrocketed all across the country as fascist thugs and WF-affiliated militias battled one another openly. This proved a perfect justification for "vehement police action", which was short of an euphemism for government-sanctioned violence against labour and anti-fascist organisations while FU thugs' violence was left unchecked. Violence against political oponents quickly escalated, with a notable episode being the assassination of former PM Delmer in broad daylight after a parliamentary session on November 24, 1917.

The escalation in political violence led to a tightening of restrictive policies by the government. In June 1918, police arrested leaders of socialdemocratic and workers' organisations. The weak position of leftist groups was taken advantage of by De Meer, who pushed the already ill king Johan II to dissolve the Chamber of Commons and scheduled a snap general election for August 21st. The election led to a plurality of seats for the FU (52/120), which still needed support from certain conservative groups. This renewed mandate for the FU came with an even greater attempt by De Meer to extend his grip on power. FU's grayshirts militias dealt a final blow to organised political oposition on the night of October 4th, 1918 in what was known as the night of the sharp knives. More than 700 left-leaning intellectuals, sindicalists and politicians were murdered, while another 1200 were injured to different extents. The tense and violent environment brought conservative parties into the fold to support an extensive power grab by De Meer and the FU. On October 14th, and using the events on Oct. 4th as an alleged reason, the Chamber of Commons passed an emergency powers bill granting De Meer absolute powers.

Over the following few years, the dictatorial regime steadily tightened its grasp over the country. The death of Jean II in 1921 and the subsequent election of Jean III by the House of Electors brought a brief glimpse of hope for the political oposition, but the newly elected king quickly appeared ineffective in opposing De Meer's government. On Tuesday, December 23 1924, agents belonging to the secret police performed an assassination attempt on the king. Though Jean didn't die at the moment, he fell into a coma, passing finally on February 4th, 1925.

      The 2010's financial crisis

The impressive performance of the Inelander economy during the 1990's and 2000's had come at the cost of a quietly expanding real estate bubble. Between 1985 and 2005 the price per sqm of a newly-built accomodation grew from the equivalent of 200€ (in 2022 euros) to approximately 3.200€, while wages only doubled and the overall cost of life increased during said period.

Kasper was going over some files while also checking some polling figures for the upcoming election. Even though a new center-right government under his leadership was expected by almost anyone, an increase in support for both the progressives and the ultranationalists was worrysome. His best method to keep his mind away from those thoughts was to work on stuff from the MFA. And that day was going to be specially busy as he was going to head to Aigues Calmes for the summit with the Reitzmic government.

The visit by the Reitzmics was significant as it was the second time an ECON-aligned government was visiting the country in the last two months. And that, indeed, was sending a strong sign to the EU: we want to join ECON. That was something, of course, dependant on the fortunes of the upcoming election, but it was almost certain that the necessary parliamentary majority of parties in favour of ECON membership would be achieved as the parties in government and part of the progressives supported the goal.

ECON was, of course, not the only matter on the agenda. Reitzmag was known for it's military hardware production and Ineland wanted some of it. Another of the hot topics for the summit was the acquisition of nuclear submarines, destroyers and aircraft carriers to finally provide the Inelander Maritime Force with blue water capabilities.

But with so much checking over details for the summit it was almost 10am, about time to go to the helipad for a quick helicopter ride to Aigues Calmes. Frederick Vandervelde and Cyril Gagnot, the minister of Defence, were already in the helicopter waiting for him. As Kasper hopped into the helicopter, the propeller blades started turning and once the appropriate rotations were achieved the chopper gently rose up before starting the journey to the coastal resort city of Aigues Calmes.

      Monarchy

The elective monarchy of the United Principalities, commonly known as the federal monarchy, is the constitutional form of government by which an elected sovereign reigns as the head of state of the United Principalities of Ineland. The current monarch is Jean IV, who ascended the throne in April 1985 after his election by the House of Electors.

      Powers and duties

The monarch and their immediate family undertake various official, ceremonial, diplomatic and representational duties. As the monarchy is constitutional, the monarch is limited to functions such as bestowing honours, exercising limited diplomatic representation duties and appointing the minister-president, which are performed in a non-partisan manner. Some of the representation duties are shared with the sovereign's consort. The monarch is also, in a ceremonial way, Supreme Commander of the Inelander Defence Force.

      Electoral system

After the passing of the sovereign, the House of Electors, upper chamber of the Inelander Parliament which gathers the heads of state of the 31 territories that make up Ineland, is tasked with the election of the next holder of the title from among its members. This election needs to take place no later than 30 days after the throne has been left vacant.

After a new sovereign has been elected, that person is allowed to keep its title as the head of his state, though he/she may no longer exercise his powers as such and designate a regent or a regency council to take over head of state functions in said state. Generally, the heir pressumptive is designated regent.

      Residences

The oficial residence of the sovereign in Hautcour, the de facto capital, is Montagnevue Palace.

      Current holder

The sovereignty of Ineland is currently exercised by Jean of , prince of. He ascended to the throne in . His spouse is Arianne, queen consort of Ineland.

TK: Hello Andrea and hello Europe!

AM: Welcome Takeshi! What have Yosainians decided to vote?

TK: Our fellow watchers, in their infinite wisdom, have decided to distribute their votes the following way. On the third spot, with 8 points, comes THE UNITED KINGDOM! Second, with 10 points, come THE UNITED DUCHIES! And lastly, our 12 points go to... REITZMAG!

      alt text

AM: Thank you Takeshi and good evening to you and all of Yosai! After this 8th round of voting we're getting even closer to the end of the show, and so it seems that the winner will be among the current top 5! Now let's proceed to our next round of votes. Nieves? Is Spain there and ready!?

NA: Good evening Andrea! Here we are, present and ready to vote! On the third position, with 8 points, comes THE UNITED KINGDOM! Second place, with 10 points, comes OREGON! And first, with the 12 points spot comes REITZMAG! Thank you Andrea and thank you EU!

      alt text

AM: Thank you Nieves and Spain! Well, it seems this is getting exciting as Reitzmag received 12 points twice in a row. May we be in front of a new runner-up for the win? Let's find out with more votes. Let me invoke you... Lenny, my friend! Where are the Duchies!?

LH: Here we are, baby! Good evening my darling, Andrea. Here comes the moment you've all been waiting for, it's time for the United Duchies to award some points! Our 8 points have gone to YOSAI! Our 10 points have gone to OREGON! And our 12 points have gone to INQUISTA!

      alt text

AM: Thanks Lenny! And wow, the landscape changes drastically as Inquista climbs from the 5th to the 1st spot, exchanging positions with Czech Slavia who drop from the 1st to the 5th. Oregon climbs from 4th to 2nd, while Elthize goes down from 2nd to 3rd as Icholasen also drops one place from 3rd to 4th. In the meantime, Reitzmag clings to the 6th position. Let's see how this continues with the scores of our next voting country and penultimate voting round. But beware, here comes the wolf! Wolf Alice giving the score results for Elthize!

WA: Auuuuuu and beware! Good evening Andrea and good evening Europeans! Elthizeans haven't had it easy, but they've come up with some scoring and here's the results. Third place, with 8 points, come THE UNITED DUCHIES! Second place, with 10 points, comes INQUISTA! And finally, with 12 points comes CZECH SLAVIA!

      alt text

AM: Thank you Wolf Alice, and thank you Elthize! Well, it seems like the panorama, with just one country left to vote, is starting to get clearer. Sadly, Czech Slavia has no options given that the only country left to vote is them and they can't vote for themselves. However, and while Inquista is 5 points ahead of the next possible winner, anything could happen as, mathematically, 4 entries have options: Inquista, Oregon, Icholasen and Elthize. Thus, it seems that the final round of voting will be an extremely intense moment.

Let's go for it. Antonin and Czech Slavia, I call upon you to show up!

AS: Good evening Andrea! Indeed, sadly as it is, we're mathematically left out of the competition. However, we have the honour to be kingmakers in this edition. There's always a positive side to every story! So, without any further ado, let's give Europe what it wants: A WINNER!

Third place, with 8 points... INELAND!

AM: Which places Ineland on a final score of 58 points.

AS: Second place, with 10 points... OREGON!

AM: Which places Oregon on a final score of 78 points.

AS: And first place, with 12 points... ICHOLASEN!

AM: Which places Icholasen on a final score of 77 points. So far, Oregon would be first and Icholasen second, but things could still change at the very last moment.

AS: And now, let's go with the rest of the score, from the bottom. With one point... VAYINAOD!

      With two points... SPAIN!

With three points... THE UNITED KINGDOM!

With four points... THE UNITED DUCHIES!

      With five points... ELTHIZE!

      With six points... RITZMAG!

And finally, with seven points... INQUISTA!

AM: And with those seven points, INQUISTA clings to the top position with 80 points, just two ahead of Oregon!

      alt text

AM: INQUISTA IS THE WINNER OF THE 43RD EDITION OF EUROVOICE! Thank you Antonin and Czech Slavia, and THANK YOU EVERYONE! See you soon in Inquista for EuroVoice 44!
