Number of officially registered parties growing

Since the Gouvernement of Czech Slavia declared the situation in the state to be mostly stabilized a number of registered parties has been increasing. Among the registered parties are the Party of the Democratic Left and the Green Party, both of which have the potential to reach 5% of the votes according to official polls.

The Party of the Democratic Left was founded by former members of the Social Democratic Party of Czech Slavia around Petr Hájek. Hájek assumed the leadership of Czech Social Democrats after Alois Jelen has departed from the Democratic Republic to the Commonwealth of Leagio, Hájek was since trying to get the Social Democratic Party re-registered, but this has only happened after the return of Alois Jelen. Jelen assumed the official leadership of the party again, refusing to hold a extraordinary leadership election as Hájek demanded, for the reason of preparing for the upcoming legislative election, after this Hájek and hiss supporters requested for the Party of the Democratic Left to be registered. Both social democratic parties hold the view that the other party is made up of the liberal wing of the formely unified party that is abandoning left-wing politics and the ordinary people of Czech Slavia.

The Green Party is an environmentalist party that has existed since the 1990's and was now re-registered.

The Civic Forum and the Czech National Democracy have not been re-registered so far as their leaders are still suspected of attempting to overthrow the republic and are currently avoiding trial living abroad. Some liberal, conservative and nationalist groups have since requested registration of new political parties or movements but were not so far been approved. Leaders of both CF and CND have condemned the restrictions on political parties accusing the ruling Socialist Republican Party of only allowing controlled opposition to run in the election that will take place in October this month. This accusation has been rejected by all registered political parties.
