Should companies be allowed to be monopolies?
Keith Margen
As Reyali Corporation in Brickston is undoubtedly a monopoly, concerns about how big a company can be are starting to rise up. The founder of a rival company of the Reyali Corporation who wishes to be anonymous, says that monopolies create a centralized economy, but through a private company. "When companies become monopolies, it's no different than having a centralized communism [communistic] model. The only difference is that a private corporation runs it," they say.Research shows that monopolies have a negative impact on smaller companies. This results in the smaller companies having no or little profit. We got the opportunity to speak to Jacob Zulasruker, who advocates for having a limit to how much monopolies can grow. "When there is no profit for smaller companies, workers get lesser pay, eventually getting laid off. It can cause national crises."

Lavoie's Brickston and Authoritarian-Capitalism
Notknowo Syric Levoari
As CCTV footage is more common in public areas in cities like Portovo and Brownhill, the civilians who live there are questioning if their privacy is being stomped on. "Everywhere I go, I see these surveillance cameras," says Barne, who lives in Brownhill. "But if that wasn't enough, on every other day I see drones. It's really scary, 'cause da president might turn out [to] be a dictator."But that might as well be exaggerated. "President Lavoie takes voting [political] and cash [economic] freedoms very seriously," says John from Hufenhurf, Portovo, Barne's friend.

Quadranscentennial Provincial Border Redrawing takes place today
John Kent | 05/10/21
Brickston's borders are to be redrawn today at midnight, to preserve the 100-year long tradition of changing the provincial borders every 25 years (locally known as Provinzzirkusschach). A whopping 146 participants proposed designs 2 weeks ago for new provincial borders. The tradition of Provinzzirkusschach has been thought to have lasted ever since the foundation of the Bricksvvad Empire but has been thought to have stopped for a few centuries (the 14th Century to the 20th Century). Although this theory is not fully proven, it is still an important part of Briekish Culture.
The winner, named Angela Merkel-Übersetzerin, presented the design below:
The winning design presented by Angela Merkel, aboveThe farewell ceremony, to honour the old provincial borders (this ceremony is known as Provinzehren) will take place at midnight, with the President and the Monarch paying respects.
Current Provincial Borders, will be no longer in effect on midnight in Briekish Standard Time (BST), 5/10/21 -
Briekish Quality You can Trust
Frank Walter
What started as a punishment due to the poor quality of Briekish products grew into a revolution which led to Brickston having an outstanding reputation for its products. For more context, Brickston used to have the worst reputation in Europe for working conditions and the quality of products. This resulted in the World Trade Organization addressing this issue and enforcing laws which made products worldwide to have country tags. This may not seem catastrophic, but it certainly was for Brickston.
A "Made in Brickston" tag of a local medicinal bottle in the 1940s
This rule was especially enforced on Brickston. Labourers working in the Manufacturing Sector and employers experienced heavy losses. The communist Maduro Government at the time subsidized Briekish Factories to increase yields. But after the fall of communism, North Brickston was not going to make the same mistake. Therefore, to increase the trust of the tag "MADE IN BRICKSTON", quality increased.Today, Brickston has a high reputation for the quality of goods it produces (even in the private sector).

New anti-racism legislations passed by assembly; many sections controversial
Jeremy Wüttenwurst
PORTOVO: A series of legislations passed by the Assembly banned racism related derogatory terms used in public, as well as made government officials more accountable (to segregating groups of people or/and using the terms mentioned in the beginning of this news article). In addition, sentences of 1 to 2 years have been enforced, with 3 to 4 years if the perpetrators are law enforcement officials or other government officials. This seemingly decent legislation, passed 3 days ago, has resulted in controversy. Many vetoes were expressed through elapsed ballots, posted in the "Veto:Reason Box" in Portovo. Many who oppose say that "they should be able to say anything they wish", or that Brickston is a democratic country and does not have a place for this legislation". -

This included an attempted hijacked plane that was set to hit the Bank of Brickston, which luckily evaded due to the Briekish Air Force maneuvering the plane indirectly. The identified suspects are a group of 15 people, 13 of which have been imprisoned. The suspects' ages range from 15 to 45, with most suspects having links to extremist ideologies. -

The President told us after a press conference in Doh Tin Mah City, "The solution to poverty is not welfare, but employment." He abruptly left after that.

Doh Tin Mah City undergoes canal extension project
Sam W. Anderssen
The Stadtbeeren Canal was built in 1925 in Doh Tin Mah City with a dock located at the end of the canal. It was a trade-oriented canal. But over the years, as mass trade on ships started gaining popularity, the dock started receiving fewer boats. The city government made a decision to close it down. But the locals demanded for the canal to remain open as water transit was one of the primary modes of transit in the city. Therefore, it has remained open.
Now, the mayoral government has decided to extend the canal to newer suburbs of the city which are rapidly growing. This project is set to be finished by 2035.

Himmelsstrand & Himmeruckend the official names for previously named Hugoslavia
Binci Strasse
Hugoslavia is the largest city in Brickston. But according to the Mayor of this huge metropolis, that is no longer the case. It is now Himmelsstrand or Himmeruckend; the same city but with a now new name. The name Hugoslavia originated from Old Southern Briekish."Meaning in modern-day Briekish"
"Hugoslavia is an absolutely iconic name for the city. But the problem is its meaning in Modern-day Briekish makes no sense. Hugen in old Briekish meant gigantic and Slevien meant trees, which is already a silly name for a city. But today it has an even more obscure meaning: Hugen means fig" the mayor chuckles uncontrollably and continues after a good 3 minutes. "and Slevien means absolutely nothing. So it doesn't really age well.""It is also confused for having Slavic roots."

Sudden highs in Stock Market & all Assets seeing positive growth
Benin Varguann
The Stock Market, once quite boring to look at and would only make a few quid for the common man, is now exponentially growing. The Reyali Corporation & The Walksweagan Group are 6 times and 8 times higher than they were a few weeks earlier respectively. Household incomes, which are conveniently reviewed every 2 months, have been found to have increased by 15%.
This has impact on all other assets too, such as houses. The value of houses is increasing, but not exponentially, although it is projected to.
This sudden economic growth has resulted in people aggressively buying and selling assets in order to make use of the growth. However, the Minister of Finance says it is important to be vigilant. "We might be looking at an economic bubble, which we wouldn't exactly be ready to deal with. While it is important to be vigilant, we must also make use of this to a limit."

Talks between Government and Walksweagan Company over Ripple Sustainable Development Plan
Bruna Schuster
The Ripple Sustainable Development Plan, which aims to achieve a carbon-neutral status and a sustainable economy, is sparking concerns within the high ranks of the largest automobile group in Brickston. The Walksweagan Group is the second-largest company on the mainland after the Nestlé Co. and the largest employer. The company hires more than 700,000 people and is worth more than 150 billion euros.
The concerns are about the systematic prohibition of petrol and diesel vehicles through the implementation of the plan, thoroughly mandating the use of electric vehicles across the mainland and the islands. 89% of vehicles produced by the company are fuel-dependent, although that figure is steadily decreasing. The Walksweagan Group, either way, has urged the government of Brickston to ease automobile laws in the development plan.
The Walksweagan Group has also always had a monopoly over the automobile sector. However, it entered the electric vehicle market much later. The Marcar Automobile Company had already dominated the electric car market. This is another reason why the Walksweagan Chairman met the Government of Brickston for negotiation.
