The Independence Pursuit in the Duchies
-

George Maxwells had a plan. A handful of summits around Europe with some of the superpowers would be enough to force their independence peacefully. On the Independence Pursuit rute were Spain, Inimicus, Inquista, Nofoaga, the Internal Affairs Commissioner Birdane, a Council Session or Inimicus. Maxwells had already gone to Spain, with some successful results; as the Foreign Affairs Minister, Alfonso Dastis, had guaranteed recognition if "Reitzmag didn't reach an agreement in the Caspian, the Autonomy continued being removed from them or if Reitzmag pulled out of the Treaty of Buckingham". Maxwells was confident to get their recognition as soon as something bad happened with them and Reitzmag, so the next stop was the United Duchies.
While in Spain the weather was rainy and cold, the Duchies' were sunny and warm, when it should be the opposite. "This must be the Climate Change"; thought George Maxwells while the train approached to Cair Para Station. He had decided to travel by Eurorail this time, just to test how comfortable and fast was, and also to convince some people who talked to them about the Copalan Independence. Many of them were already convinced and cheered the First Minister of Copala City, others said Reitzmag was undivisible and others joined the pro-independence lounge. It was a successful journey for Maxwells. The train continued its approach to the station, and Maxwells started to put everything on his suitcase. His suitcase was very old, as it was a gift from his grand grandfather. Once everything was ready, he headed towards the closest door. The train came to a stop, and the doors opened.
The First Minister of Copala City got off the train and headed outside the station, were a private chofer was waiting for him. He got into the car and the driver took him to the Presidential Palace, where the meeting would take place. During the trip, Maxwells didn't mention Copala City, but else talked about the Duchies and some social affairs the country he was visiting that day was going true. The trip would take some time, enough to have the Duchies' politicians prepared to welcome him.

After a small recent reshuffle Deng Jia was getting into his role at the foreign office. He was told to meet George Maxwells , the position of Duchies was simple they would try to work with Reitzmag but if the situation forced Copala City to pursue independence they'd support it if the majority of Copalans did. He met with George Maxwells saying "Welcome to the Duchies , I hope we can have a very fruitful meeting.First things first if you could talk to us about your concerns."
-
George shook hands with Deng Jia and then, both proceeded to the room where the summit would take place. He took a seat and asked for a glass of water to the nearest assitant. While the glass of water came, he listened to the Duchian Foreign Affairs Minister. Finally, the glass of water arrived, he had some and then placed in on the table. Then, Maxwells started to speak about the concerns on Reitzmag: "My concerns are simple: the Nicoleizians entering a kind of apartheid made by Reitzmag and the investors running away. The Copalan Eocnomy is weak and the package of sanctions we have received during the last days are being destructive. More and more people are losing their job, and while Reitzmag keeps our autonomy suspended without any reason but being scared of some people, we show them the Copalan Government is 3 times more useful than theirs. What we want is our independence, and I'm pretty confident we will achieve it, but we are no people which would rise against someone with firearms and turn crazy, we are peaceful. Apart from that, we are concerned about Reitzmag receiving more sanctions, and even if the United Duchies is exempting us from theirs, something I need to thank you for, it's not enough. We need to save the Copalans, and independence from that messy country is the only way that's left for us."
-
The foreign minister listened as Maxwell spoke and then replied "Thank you , we do honestly feel for the Copalans and as you know have expressed concern over the suspension of autonomy. You can be assured you have our support in this regard. We will also be willing to support independence but only on the condition a full referendum fully and internationally monitored is conducted and comes back as a yes. I hope you understand its not that we don't trust Copalans its just it needs to be seen as fair by all. What I would propose is a few nations in support of you could open up discussions in the international council over the suspension of autonomy and also on independence for Copala with the aim of generating support for a referendum to democratically decide the issue. That way we could add pressure on to Reitzmag at EU level. "
-
Maxwells listened carefully and thought that was a nice idea. He had planned to go to the Council and get someone to open a discussion over there, so it was a matter of time the Copala City affair was brought to the table in the European Council. In fact, seeing van Allen having to deal with many nations asking Reitzmag for a proper and legal referendum was something he was expecting to see live on TV or maybe in a Council seat. Maxwells spoke again: "Don't worry, Mr. Deng Jia, we know it is difficult to recognise Copala City right now because that would make the happenings on the Caspian worse. What we need is, as you said, an internationally monitored referendum, something the European Union would be willing to look after and of course, we also need to bring this affair to the Council. I'm pretty confident about the Copalans, they will possibly say yes to our independence and then Reitzmag will have nothing to say or do over our sovereignty.
Leaving this apart, we have established the border checks completely, and people are accomplishing it. Only 12 truck drivers were caught and forced to go around, with success. I hope that we can keep our agreement to be exempted as Copala City is accomplishing the prerequisites my wife, Ms. Maxwells, agreed with the Duchian Prime Minister, John Peter-Key. Also, I wanted to show my condolences for the attacks which took place here just a few weeks ago. Nobody should live in pain after losing some of their beloved friends and family members"
-
Deng Jia listened and replied "You can be sure of our support in the referendum matter. I thank you for your condolences it certainly is a difficult time for us especially the families including sadly our European councillour James. We do than you for your border help we can assure you as long as borders are secured Copala will be exempted ,we do not wish to punish an innocent party to the islands issue."
-
Maxwells thanked Deng Jia and said: "It's been a pleasure, Mr. Deng Jia; I knew I could count on the Duchies for this. It's been a pleasure to talk to you today, as well as coming to the United Duchies. I hope you have a nice weekend"
After that, both men shook hands and Maxwells left to Copala City.
