It was not a good time for Wirt Harland. His hopes for political reform had been crushed by the European Council, and any motivation he had after that just... vanished. He hasn't done much in the last few months, has he? The Sertian crisis came and went, and the Commission could only issue a general statement. But that's fine, right? Who cares about the Caribbean anyway?

The impostor syndrome was kicking in at full force for Wirt, and he needed something to make him appear to be working, carrying out his duties as the Internal Affairs Commissioner. He needed something to hold on to to get re-elected and serve two terms. After all, wouldn't it be damaging to his reputation if he couldn't even stay in office for more than four months? It would obliterate all chance of his becoming president of his country, something he had aspired to achieve for years. He'd heard Grimwald wasn't in great form, but what if he couldn't seize the opportunity?

Setting up the summit was an easy job- just call Juncker and announce your intentions, and he will set up the location, time, and what have you, so that Harland could eat his brains away with thousands of "what if"s. The time was set: The first day of May, early in the afternoon. All he had to do was to act stable and easygoing. Simple.

The security around Europolis was tight, as usual. After all, you don't get to host the headquarters of an organization with dozens of member states without sprinkling a little bit of that police state, do you? He was the first in the building, barring a few service workers, and he greeted everyone coming in. "Hello, Mr Key, hope you'll have a good time here!" "Yes, Mrs Mouri-Kudo, I too hope this will be a fruitful summit!" "Good to see you, Mr Watanabe!" As he was greeting and doing small talk with other leaders, Crofton came through the door.

Oscar Crofton was not a leader, but rather, the Minister of Foreign Affairs for his home country, Elthize. President Grimwald announced weeks prior that he would not come, something that was a relief for Harland because the tension in the summit would be unbearable. He walked towards Crofton and his security to greet him.

"Greetings, Mr Crofton," Harland debuted, with a sincere yet awkward smile on his face. "I'm glad you could come here today. Is Grimwald alright?"

"Thank you," Crofton replied. "He's alright, just a little sick, is all." Crofton was not sure if Harland was convinced, though that was not his prime concern. Crofton then proceeded to greet other leaders in the building, and Harland sat at his chair, waiting for Juncker to arrive.
