      Kingdom of Reitzmag

I would like to recognize Coun. Maverick for his contributions as a European Councilor and as Chairman of this Political Party. Even though the URR has only got representation in the EPA recently, we have heard of things that Coun. Maverick had done causing great developments within Europe.

Coun. Maverick, you will always remain as an icon of European Integrity.

Current situation of Her Grace The Most Hon. Cayetana Valcárcel-Aranjuez y Pérez de Viñastre, Duchess of Athenaesios, MS, Prime Minister of the Republic of Derecta

After attending the Spanish National Day events, our Head of State and Government, Her Grace The Most Hon. Cayetana Valcárcel-Aranjuez y Pérez de Viñastre, Duchess of Athenaesios, MS, is currently missing. Cabinet members who travelled with her state that the Prime Minister decided to attend an unofficial event in Ibiza, Spain, hosted by Inquistan socialite Mikaela Kligenberg.

Reports from our embassy in Antequera suggest that, after having been illegally apprehended by the Spanish authorities, violating the principle of diplomatic immunity of top government officials, the Prime Minister was abducted and removed from the premises by what could be an international organised crime organisation.

The Government of the Republic of Derecta wishes to inform any involved party that the detaining of our Head of State and Government constitutes an act of war, which shall be answered proportionately.

3 "Charybdis" class supercarriers, 5 "Scylla" class destroyers, 5"Aegaeon" class frigates, 3 "Thalassa" class cruisers and 5 "Phorcys" class nuclear-powered attack submarines are already sailing towards international waters surrounding Spain. 10 "Athene noctua" class fighters and 4 "Apollo" class strategic bombers, escorted by 5 "Cornucopia" class tankers, shall be periodically flying over the international airspace surrounding Spain ready to attack facilities suspected of holding the Prime Minister. 25,000 troops are on standby ready to be deployed.

This is an official declaration by the Republic of Derecta of its instating of a state of exception. Our allies are advised to provide us with any and all information regarding the Prime Minister's situation. We also inform our allies that the Republic of Derecta is now taking a belligerent position, and any further threat to our national integrity will force us to declare war.

      EPA Manifesto 2020 Europolis Convention

      "Towards a Progressive Europe"

      Introduction

The European Progressive Alliance is a caucus of progressive, democratic and pro-European partisans.

We believe in universal equality and freedom. We seek to protect and advance human rights and champion democracy and democratic decision-making. We believe that social justice, social inclusion, and cultural cohesion are all vital to building a fair and prosperous future.

We believe in free market values and promote trade liberalisation. We advocate for market integration and economic cohesion. We believe that a free and competitive economic system, along with fair trade rules, just worker’s rights, and a sustainable environment, will be key to establishing successful and thriving economies that work to benefit European workers the most.

Above all, we believe that the European Union is the best political institution for implementing our principles. We recognise that a growing number of issues are facing all of Europe, from matters of environmental degradation to the threats of human safety and liberty, and we believe that the European Union is best suited to address these problems. We believe in a strong European Union, and we believe in one that can produce fair and sensible solutions. We believe that Europe is weak when it is divided but is strong when it comes together. The European Union is best when it is united by its diversity, which we aim to unite in pursuit of our common causes.

      Policy - Ideological

We support the equality of all persons before the law, regardless of their race, sex, gender, sexual orientation, culture, national origin, ethnicity, religion, language, ability, or other characteristics, without privilege, discrimination, or bias.

We support the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and all of the rights and freedoms it pertains to. We believe that the Declaration should be further expanded if need be, particularly in order to protect Europe’s most vulnerable people, and to advance the true equality of all persons. We believe that these rights should not only be outlined, but should also be fully protected and enforced by the European Union’s institutions.

We support the cooperation and collaboration of people and communities, and respect any differences within them. We support principles based upon social inclusion, cultural cohesion and multiculturalism. We believe that we must protect and safeguard minority identities, cultural diversity, and Europe’s many languages, so that everyone can prosper without having to sacrifice any parts of themselves or their heritage.

We support democratic political decision-making and believe that political power must be placed within the hands of the people. We believe that the European people should be allowed to democratically choose their representatives in their own government and within the institutions of the European Union.

We support the freedom to life and liberty, and we believe that this includes a life free from authoritarianism, arbitrary surveillance, or unjust punishment.

We support technological innovations and believe that technology should be used to better society. We believe that better access to technology should be encouraged, and that access must be treated equally and justly.

We believe and recognise that humans have contributed to climate change and the environmental destruction of the Earth. We support strong initiatives and extensive measures for a sustainable and environmentally just future.

      Policy – Economic

We support free market economics and the freedom for individuals to pursue their own wealth.

We support trade liberalisation and the reduction of trade barriers between European states. By reducing barriers, we support the integration of European economies and their markets so that European consumers and workers can benefit from greater economic opportunities.

We support the creation of international trade rules, market standardizations and mechanisms to resolve international trade disputes. We believe that European states will have a greater chance to prosper within a fair, just and accountable international economic order.

We believe that everyone deserves an opportunity to participate in an economy, and that all workers should have protected rights. We support workplaces, jobs, markets and economies that safeguard and protect the rights of workers and promote their best interests.

We support the right to private property, including the right to intellectual property.

      Policy – Institutional

We support the cooperation and collaboration of European states, and we believe that division makes the European Union weaker.

We support international order and the creation of norms within the European Union, so that member states behave in a way that makes them more accountable to their actions and are more likely to follow the laws of the European Union, its Constitution, and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

We believe that many issues are occurring at a European-wide scale, and we believe that this requires increased decision-making at a supranational level, and we believe that the European Union is required to address these issues.

We support the government of the European Union. We believe that the legislative and executive bodies of the European Union require substantial decision-making capabilities and powers in order to accomplish its goals.

We support the institutions of the European Union, and we believe they should be effective and well-funded. We believe that many regional issues should be addressed through institutions, and that these institutions should be used to encourage and champion peace, cohesion, community, democracy and the rule of law.

We believe in a European Union that is purposeful and intentional with its policy and direction. We believe that the institutions of the European Union should have roles and duties that are clearly defined and made evident.

We support the European Court of Justice, and we believe that its powers and duties should be better defined so that it can enforce the Constitution and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights more effectively.

We believe the institutions and government of the European Union should be democratically elected and accountable.

We support the enlargement of the European Union and believe as many states as possible should join our European community.

We support the fair and equal treatment of all European Union member states. We believe that each member state of the European Union should be entitled to an equal voice without discrimination or distinction as to their size or population.

We believe that the European Union should be committed to defending our allies and other regions abroad. We support the activities of the European Corps.

      Caucus Structure

The caucus shall be made up of full members and associate members.

All full members shall have equal rights on deciding caucus policy and in electing a Chairperson to lead the caucus.

All caucus policy decisions and Chairperson elections shall be made through democratic processes, in which each full member shall be allowed to cast a single vote. All decisions shall be made by the largest plurality. Associate members do not get to vote.

The Chairperson shall serve as the official head of the caucus and will undertake all the administrative duties of the caucus. The Chairperson shall also appoint full members to specific policy portfolios.

The Chairperson of the caucus shall be elected after they secure a plurality of votes through an official democratic process. Only full members may nominate themselves for chairpersonship. Chairpersons will not face any term limits, and their terms shall last for a whole calendar year. Chairperson elections should take place following the first European Commission election of the year.

All full members shall be appointed to a specific portfolio that concerns an area of European policy by the Chairperson. All members of the caucus are entitled to give their full opinions on any area of policy they please, but those appointed to a certain policy portfolio are expected to be the strongest and most vocal caucus representative within that area.

Any Councillor may apply to join the caucus and become a full member. An applicant councillor shall require the approval of the Chairperson in order to be accepted as full member.

Any non-councillors may request associate membership, which shall be decided by the Chairperson. Associate members automatically become full members when they become a Councillor of the European Council.

Violet Leandros to step down from Prime Minister Office

In an unforeseen turn of events, Prime Minister Violet Leandros has announced this morning her intention to relinquish her duties as head of state and government, as well her post as Member of the Senate for Dikaíoma (Dytikós).

Leader of the Derectan Democratic Confluence since late 2014, she became Prime Minister after the 2017 General Elections, in which the Derectan Popular Alliance, at the time led by former Prime Minister Carolina de la Torre-Ferrándiz, lost the super-majority it had enjoyed in Congress during the XLVth legislature.
The importance of the Upper House during the times of the Federal Republic prompted the alliance between the DPA and the DDC, to this day still in power, which landed Leandros with the top job.

Recently divorced from her 20-year husband, Peter Reynolds, a top executive at the Consortium and heir to the powerful New England Reynolds family, Prime Minister Leandros has justified her early departure by citing her personal troubles.

However, many believe this is but a tactic to reinforce the DDC's strength in the Houses of Parliament, due to the wearing down of the DPA's popularity and the surge of the DDC's own one, which was only being weighed down by Leandros' personal image.

This is why the Socialist Party of Derecta and the Libs have already announced their abstention during the voting of dissolution of the Houses of Parliament this afternoon, in hopes that many rogue DPA Senators decide not to follow Mrs Leandros' partisan wishes.
The DPA would want to retain its 238 Senators and 65 Congresspeople, as opposed to the 56 and 29 held by the DDC.

A vote to dissolve the Houses of Parliament requires a majority of approvals over dismissals. Leandros now needs 148 votes for it to prosper. 92 members of the DPA must be willing to give Mrs Leandros the ability to abandon Eleutheria Palace.

      History of Derecta

      Antiquity:
Derectan history begins around 670 BC. when the coast of modern-day Port Scheria is colonised by the Greek tribe Scheria. The Greek colons arrive at an almost pristine environment, Derecta only counting with few uncivilised tribes at the moment. This enables the Greeks to quickly establish their hegemony in the region, and submit the lesser coast-based proto-Derectan civilisation to their dominance.

      First Greek enclave in Derecta

Having left their original settlement due to unknown causes, the Hellene colony founders quickly expanded towards the west and divided in 667 BC. what today comprises the entirety of Derecta's coastline into two distinct provinces:

Second stage of Greek conquering of Derecta

Anatolikós, to the east, ruled by Vasiliki, matriarch of the Scheria clan, its territory spawning across modern-day Marina, Port Scheria, Poseidarnassus, Kallonassa and Argomenion. It was a fishing area, as well and had many lush forests to hunt in.
Dytikós, to the west, ruled by Vasiliki's son Archelaos, its territory spawning across modern-day Dikaíoma, Thalassagoria, Athenaesios, Erethyma and Orchoskopeion. Mining began soon after the claiming of this land, which became Derecta's first source of precious minerals and metals. This advantage was fundamental to the designation of the province, and Dikaíoma, as the capital of the colony, as currency was minted there.
The same year, Dikaíoma is founded in Dytikós, as the city of "power and authority", and becomes the capital of the Greek colony. This is due to the growing weakness of Vasiliki, due to her old age, which enables Archelaos to amass even more power amongst the tribe's nobility.

In 657 BC. the Scheria add a new province to their territory: Vóreios, to the north, also ruled by Archelaos. This province will assure agricultural production in Derecta, covering the unclaimed territory now part of modern-day Scheria and stretching towards modern-day San Marcos.

Third stage of Greek conquering of Derecta

In 648 BC. Vasiliki dies and Archelaos takes over as ruler of the Three Greek Provinces. He founds the House of Athede, the oldest and longest surviving noble house in Derectan history, by marrying Hypatia of Thebaurus, daughter of one of his lieutenants. Archelaos then proclaims himself "Aνώτατος Aριστοκράτης/Anótatos Aristokrátis" meaning "Supreme Aristocrat". The title will be used by all his successors, including the Targan kings. The land becomes the Kingdom of Athede.

This is the beginning of monarchy in Derecta, which will last over 2,480 years.

623 BC marks the end of Greek expansion in Derecta, as they conquer their last province, Akrotérion, comprising the rest of the territory of modern-day San Marcos. This province will provide timber and stone for the rest of the colony.

Fourth and final stage of Greek conquering of Derecta.

      LIST OF ATHEDE MONARCHS (ANTIQUITY):
(Dates listed correspond to years of ruling, not birth/death dates.)

Archelaos I: 648 BC - 629 BC: First Athede Monarch
Archelaos II: 629 BC - 607 BC: Son of Archelaos I, Akrotérion is conquered under his rule.
Archelaos III: 607 BC - 592 BC: Son of Archelaos II, Archelaos III orders the first Navy in Derectan history to be created, to defend the coastline and fishers from pirate attacks.
Hypatia I: 592 BC - 576 BC: Daughter of Archelaos III, founds the city of Poseidarnassus, the Athede Kingdom's largest and most protected fish market at the time.
Archelaos IV: 576 BC - 570 BC: Nephew of Hypatia I, replaces her son, who suffers from a strange, undetermined, mental affliction. Rules until Eirene I comes of age.
Eirene I: 570 BC - 545 BC: Granddaughter of Hypatia I, first female monarch to lead a strike against rebellious tribes in Vóreios, starting the Tribal Wars.
Archelaos V: 545 BC - 503 BC: Son of Eirene I, the first paved roads network across the Kingdom's provinces is built under his rule.
