      ESTBURY CAPITAL BUILDING CLEARED OUT

      The Reckoning

10/6/2025, ESTBURY-- After a 3 night standoff with the illegal occupiers in the capital building in Estbury, the occupants have surrendered to law enforcement Tuesday morning after an offer of general amnesty was given. Prior to the negotiations, law enforcement enforced a blockade on the building, avoiding to direct assault the capital out of fear for the lives of the hostages the occupants held. The occupiers left the building in an orderly manner facilitated by law enforcement and shortly after the perimeter was secure and the hostages were liberated.

Despite the offer for amnesty, many of the government are demanding a more assertive response after this incident. This morning a bill was introduced in the Sondrede that will declare the separatist Liberal Party of Estmark, the group who lead the storming of the Estbury capital, a terrorist organization. They cite their storming of the capital as an act of terrorism and therefore grounds for their addition to the list. This will allow the Republic to use more proactive measures to suppress their political activity which is widely believed to be the source of unrest in the region.

Statement from the Sondrede of the Republic

We, the members of the Sondrede, condemn the aggression that took place over this last weekend in Estbury. We regard the aggression as an attack on our democratic institutions as well as an attack on all of the people of Fayrrendel. We hold that the investigation that the Alderrede is undertaking in light of evidence of election interference in Estmark as legitimate and noble and implore the people of Estmark to show patience during this unusual time.

Knowing and trusting in the good nature of the People of Estmark, we hold that the attack that was carried out on the capitol in Estbury was perpetrated and organized by the Liberal Party of Estmark, a known extremeist organization that has openly avowed the destruction and disintegration of the Republic. Now, this party has shown that they will go through many lengths to achieve their deviant aims, including the taking of hostages, the destruction of government property, and the terrorizing of civilians.

Given this, the Sondrede hereby passes this resolution declaring the Liberal Party of Estmark a terrorist organization and will be categorized as such under pre-existing laws.

      Politics of Fayrrendel

Fayrrendel is a Republic (Ostridish: Bylawship) under the framework of a theocracy which was established by the overthrow of the Old Bylawship in 1979. The official state religion is Hallowdom, the ethnic religion of the Ostridish population. Minority religions are legally tolerated, but are reported to be under constant surveillance. Regular and frequent elections are held in local offices as well of the Lower House of the Greatmoot, the Sondrede. However much of the high executive political positions are controlled by the Alderrede, which consists mostly of appointees from the Hallow Clergy.

The Head of State and Government in the Republic is the Steward, who is elected by the Alderrede alongside all other high executive offices. The Steward is always, but not legally required to be, a member of the Hallowed Society’s ruling council, the main clerical organ of Hallowdom. The Steward is the Commander-in-Chief of all of the military forces in Fayrrendel, heads the executive organs of the state, the chief diplomat of the Republic, as well has the ability to issue decrees on foreign policy and religious issues. The Steward serves with the confidence of the Alderrede, but generally, the Alderrede gives deference to the priorities of the Steward, thus making it in practice a lifetime appointment.

The Greatmoot is the Legislature of the Republic. The Lower House, the Sondrede, is elected by universal suffrage by all citizens of Fayrrendel every 3 years. It the the sole house that can propose laws and Acts of the Greatmoot, as well as propose new taxes. The Sodrede’s consent is also required in cases of Declaring War, as well as approving the annual budget made by the Alderrede. All constitutional changes must be approved by the Sondrede by a 2/3rds majority. The Upper House, the Alderrede, is a council of current and sometimes former government ministers, appointees from the Hallowed Society, and occasionally respected experts on niche issues. They appoint all of the ministers of the government, as well as recall them, are the highest Judicial Organ in the country, as well have veto-power over any laws the Sondrede proposes.

      Political Parties

Torchbearer’s Society of the Holy Revolution
      Political Position: Center to Right-wing
This party is the dominant party in the Sondrede and is regarded as an extension of the Hallowed Society. They have always been the ruling party of the Sondrede since the founding of the current regime. Their ideology supports the theocratic system and generally supports the agenda of the ruling Steward. The Party has two factions, the Moderates and the Hard-Liners. The Moderates have been the majority of the Party since the partial liberalisation in the 2000’s, although the Hard-liners have significant influence in the clergy. Moderates typically are more conciliatory towards other European powers and prefer a more open Fayrrendel while the Hard-liners are more isolationist and prefer Fayrrendel to make more unilateral decisions.

      Hallow Democratic Group
      Political Position: Center-Left
This party was founded as a coalition of dissident clergy and the surviving liberals from the Old Bylawship. They are a small minority in the Sondrede but are the only political party in the Sondrede receiving representation besides the Torchbearer’s Society. They advocate reform to the system and the complete liberalisation of the country, including the end of the prohibition of non-Ostriders from entering Norshire and Sudshire. Though they do not openly oppose the theocratic system, they are regarded as the party that dissidents to the system flock to. Their views on the European Union are mixed, but generally supportive.

Portland Attacks: What We Know so far

      alt text

PORTLAND-- President John Kitzhaber today announced a State of Emergency following a series of attacks that took place in Portland on Friday night. The death and injury figures are not yet known fully. As of now, 48 people are confirmed dead and 91 are under medical care.

Portland’s Sabbath night was disrupted by what appeared to be 2 bombings and 3 mass shootings. The largest and first bombing to take place was in the Rose Garden, a sports arena in the Rose Quarter of Portland, where 31 people are confirmed dead from the attack. Other attacks took place at The Overlook restaurant in South Waterfront, the Arlene Schnitzer Hall in the city center, the Pittock Mansion in Olmsted Park, and a Dutch Coffee Company cafe on Southwest 5th Avenue and Madison. Portland Police have apprehended two of the perpetrators thus far, however it is not yet known how many people were involved in this operation.

When asked about who might be responsible, Chief of the Portland Police Bureau Alvin Casey stated, “We are still investigating the perpetrators of the attack, but we do know that the attacks that occurred last night were coordinated and planned. Based on witness testimonies, we know that this group is likely associated with some paynish groups within the LDS. We can pretty confidently assume that this was an act of terrorism.”

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attacks that occurred in Portland on Friday.

Pre-debate polling shows Social Progressives is projected to make big gains

With the national debates soon taking place for each of the party leaders, polling shows that the left-wing Social Progressive Party is in a firm position to form a government later this month. Though a strong performance for the Social Progressives, this result comes as disappointing to some that hoped the WJF to win an absolute majority within the Thuidwethon. Their campaign has been largely successful however, from promising to break up the guild corporations, further democratizing Ruthund, and modernizing Ruthund's welfare system.

This is especially bad news however for Jan Nubaima, the ruling party in a caretaker coalition with the Social Progressives. Their sharp decline is largely believed to be due to the party collapse between the more left-leaning factions of the party, who were Pro-Eurofederalist and the more centre-right sections of the party who preferred to distance themselves from the European Union. the current Steward Lord Zgeirtan has appeared to sided more consistently with the centrist factions of the party since the failed neutrality motion earlier this year, thereby alienating many liberals within the party. Some of which, have chosen to support the Social Progressives in hopes that the new party will be more amicable to European integration. Others are supporting the Green Party (JRF) in a renewed effort for the next government to prioritize climate change.

NJL also hoped to gain support this election from their hard anti-EU stances, though toning down their calls to leave the European Union. In fact, NJL's campaign has been almost solely dedicated to European Union issues in relation to Ruthund's sovereignty, a shift from the previous priority of restoring the Monarchy or at least increasing the power of the Steward. However NJL's support has seemed to stagnate within urban areas and has not recovered to its level of support before the 2018 elections, where it suffered major losses to Jan Nubaima.

ON SPANISH CLAIMS OF THE ADVENTURANZA STRAIT
The Ruthenish government has been watching the dispute of the Spanish claims in the Adventuranza Strait with growing concern. We implore all parties involved in the dispute to deescalate the situation and work out a sensible solution acceptable to everyone. We respect the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Spain and they have the right to defend their territory. However we ask the government in Madrid to listen to the grievances lodged by the Federal Republic of Yosai and to work towards a positive relationship with the government in Tokyo as well as respecting their own right to territorial integrity.

The Ruthenish government stands by the belief that military escalation in the strait is destructive to any negotiations held and calls on all parties to halt military advances within the strait and allow a peaceful agreement to be made unhindered.

"Thank you comrades Lallana and Tilkanas for you contribution to the debate.

I am glad that we all agree on many of the needed updates like the removal of the first point of section I. and that the sixth point of Section II. needs to be changed, I back comrade Tilkanas' call for a Central Bank "focused not on maintaining the stability of financiers and big business but rather that of ordinary people". There also seems to be an agreement that the last point of the manifesto is vague and since no changes to that point have been proposed and nobody spoke in favour of keeping the point I agree that the point should be taken out of the manifesto.

Comrade Tilkanas proposed the removal of even more of the points of the current manifesto, including the entirety of the section IV, and we should not debate their removal. I agree that point 1 has been state through the manifesto and support its removal, however points 2., 3., 4., 5. and 6. have not been stated in previous points in the manifesto. There have been no mentions of the right to free education and healthcare, and the right to work and housing, freedom of press or the rights of the transgender individuals. To answer the question if these point should stay in the manifesto, I consider it necessary to have a point regarding the right to free education and healthcare, and the right to work and housing and a point about the freedom of press, however I am not entirely sure what the "responsible media" means and the mention of them could be removed, I see no problems with how point 6 of section IV is formulated. I have no opinion on he point about the rights of transgender individuals so I leave that debate up to you, comrades.

I can support the removal of points from section II. that comrade Tilkanas mentioned, but that is only if we can make a different point or points regarding the ecology, as that is a topic that should not be left out. I ask Comrade Tilkanas if she has any alternative she would like to propose.

I myself would like to adres the points in Section I. that regard our position on the nationalities question as comrade Tilkanas have brought my attention to it. Point 3 "Every country must have national self-determination" this sentence is nonsensical comrades, the right to self-deteremination belongs to nations, not states. Point 5 "Every nationality has the right to existence as a separate national state." if we say every nation has a right to self-determination than this is obvious and is indeed just a repetition.

For that reason I propose the following changes: Points 3 and 5 to be removed from the manifesto and replaced with a new Point 3 that would state: "The right of self-determination for all nations must be ensured across the European Union." I would like to open a debate about this proposition and if you disagree with the formulation I would like to hear your propositions.

Moving onto the proposition made by comrade Lallana that comrade Tilkanas has voiced opposition to. I believe it would be a move in the right direction to remove Point 6 of Section I. the experience we have collected so far shows us that broader coalitions are required in order to achieve a change in Europe and for that reason we should open our arms and welcome comrades who are willing to fight with us for a just European Union regardless of what is their position on the role of the religion in society and the state. Inquistan comrades should however always welcome those with different faiths or no fait among each other. I will vote for the removal of this point. Before I start the vote on the removal of this point, I would like to ask the representative from Reitzmic Labour Party, if he or she is present here, if their party agrees with Point 4 of Section I. which states: "We condemn monarchies of all kinds as a system of government"?

      Four Form System of Ruthenish

Ruthenish has what in linguistics is known as a four-form system. This means there isn't one word for “yes” or “no” (known as the two form system) but two words for yes or no depending on the context of the question asked. The four-form system is found in other languages such as Early Modern English (yes/yea and no/nay) as well as Romanian.

In Ruthenish, the 4 interjections to confirm or negate something are: ho/ei (yes), nu/tho (no). Which interjection to use heavily depends on how the question is being asked. When someone is asking a basic question for example “Would you like some ice cream?”, you would either answer “ho” or “nu”. However, if someone was asking a question in a way that was either asking for your opinion or whether they agree with something the correct way to respond would either be “ei” or “tho”. For example “Isn’t Elden Ring the best souls game to date?” or “You are coming to the party, aren’t you?” These questions are asking whether we agree with what that person said and the response ‘ei’ would mean “Yeah, I agree with what you said/exactly”. On the contrary, ‘tho’ would mean “Actually, the opposite is true/ I disagree with that statement”.

Ruthenish also makes use of echoing in some contexts. Echoing is when instead of saying yes or no to a question, the person instead uses the affirmative or negative of the verb within the question. For example: “Bohes n’Kazmurbirhai?” (“Do you live in Kazmurbirhaz?”) would prompt “Bohja” or “I live”. However, this way of answering questions is less common than using the four-form system and is mostly used in the Hukonian dialects of Ruthenish.

      THE KAZMURBIRHAZ WARDEN

Is Ruthund ready for a Catholic Steward?
      alt text
Presumptive Stewardess Brenelduz speaking at the dabate

      14 December, 2021

At the time of writing this article, Brenelduz Libonutukur’s Social Progressive Party is currently leading the national polling and her party is expected to form government as voting continues to be counted, thereby making her the next presumptive Stewardess. She would not only be the first female nominal Head of State since 1739, the last year of Queen Thazdaluz’s reign, but she also would be the first Stewardess of Ruthund ever. The title of Steward has never been bestowed on a woman ever since the foundation of the office under King Hazdulaz in 987 CE, making this an unprecedented moment in the history of Ruthund.

However the discourse surrounding Brenelduz isn't really concerning her gender in this election cycle-- but her Catholic background.

Brenelduz was born in Francoist Spain in 1960. She was the daughter of a Spanish Bleithonuz mother, or Ruthenish Christian exiles that resided in Europe but chose to keep their cultural identity and spanish diplomat. Spain has been one of the major centers of the Bleithoniz community since the 17th century and found relative safety in Spain for most of its history. However under Francoist Spain, Brenelduz and the rest of the Bleithon community was expected to conform to Castilian customs and abandon her Bleithoniz identity in accordance with the cultural assimilation policies of Franco. Albeit, her mother secretly taught her Ruthenish and Brenelduz became an active member of the Bleithon community, which was underground at that time.

However during her young adulthood, Spain began to transition to a democracy and relaxed its laws on cultural assimilation that forced the Bleithoniz community underground. At University, she studied Law while continuing her studies in theology and Classical Ruthenish amongst the Blethoniz Community in Spain. During this time Brenelduz joined the Oimlond (Homeland) Society, a group of Ruthenish Catholics that sought to campaign to return to Ruthund and revive the Christian community within Ruthund. However during this time, Christianity was still banned in Ruthund with the Old Regime still in power. An opportunity presented itself after 1994, when Ruthund had its first free elections with the Republican faction leading a coalition government. They pledged to liberalize Ruthund and to ensure basic civil liberties, including the right to freedom of religion, was ensured.

In 2003, Brenelduz arrived in Ruthund. Under the Bleithon Return Act of 2001, Brenelduz and other Ruthenish Christians were granted a path towards citizenship-- at the time, the only ones that could be granted citizenship through a normal process. However, Brenelduz still faced issues being seen as a foreigner, an issue that has never really gone away. Brenelduz, still known for her Spanish accent, still has her loyalties questioned by her opposition parties such as the right-wing Njothlenaz.

Brenelduz still is a Catholic, a faith that was until only 25 years ago, banned in Ruthund. And this has caused, even among her political allies, concern that the bestowal of the Stewardship would cause problems with the office. One of the important duties of the Steward is to accompany the King on several important religious rituals, including the lighting of the First Flame on Ruthenish New Years. Brenelduz has historically refused to take part in Zdardrin festivals for religious reasons, preferring to celebrate Catholic holidays privately. Though this to some may seem like a superficial issue, which may well be, this could have big spiritual ramifications for the State.

Indeed some conservative religious scholars argue that only a Zdardrin can ever become Steward when caretaking the throne, since the legitimacy of the State comes from the spiritual authority of Ruthak and his successors. Though the debate is not a hot button issue in mainstream Ruthenish society, there is some doubt whether the clergy will recognize the new found authority of the Stewardess, which could open up discourse once more for a restoration of the Monarchy, which could plunge Ruthund into a constitutional crisis.

However most political commentators are not worried about this prospect, as the new Thuidwethon is expected to be the most secular and left-wing session since its inception and any constitutional crisis can be mitigated by amending the Basic Law-- which seems to be on the WJF’s agenda either way.

In her closing statements in the debate last week, Brenelduz concluded by saying, “As Stewardess, it is my belief that God wants me to serve the Ruthenish people as a leader of a nation, and not as just Brenelduz. And because of that, I say to all of you and my opponents up here-- my faith or my past shall be divorced from what I do as Stewardess of Ruthund. I will only do as to serve our people, our nation, and to fulfill the agenda I laid out tonight.”

The garments the King was wearing during the speech, which were typical of much of the Clergy present.

As the curtain revealed the Thuidon, something did not seem right. Many within both the foreign delegation and the clergy expected the Thuidon to be wearing the traditional garb worn by the Head of the Temple. However today, the King decided to wear the robes of one of the clergy. Was the Thuidon trying to send a message to the clergy?

"Hark!" he exclaimed. "Fellow siblings of Ruthak, I thank ye for a timely arrival this day. As for our most esteemed guests, I shall not tarry you overlong. For this Lekornmeiluz hath revealed not a trying judgement for the Omeihiz on how Ruthens shall precede."

"When I became the Thuidon in 2001 in the Southern accounting of time, Ruthund was still emerging out of a most trying time for the Realm. The house of Ruthak was still ever divided against itself and many were still recovering from Runhoithaz Descent. We lived together through a time where the future of Ruthund remained uncertain. We lived together through a time where the assurance that our Realm would worry not to live through another civil couldn't have been assured to her people. And most importantly, we lived through a time where the Constitutional order of this Realm, as established by the people in 1994, stood on a knife's edge. I have sat silent within the Halls of this Temple, silently watching for 20 years. And while some in this room may know my thoughts of the matters of state in Ruthund, I have remained silent to many.

Some say that I should retake the fir mantle of this Realm and to breathe life once more upon the old regime, yea, to this very day we still hear its voice echo down the streets of the city. To once more rouse my children as Ruthak did with the Ruthens over a thousand years ago. And to what cause should I take the throne once more and end the Stewardship, I must ask. Any learned person of our history knows that the King was merely a string in the puppetry of the various factions and classes that have long dominated this Realm. We had first the Christians, then our Nobility, then the Nowugaz. The legacy of the throne remains weak and yet there are those that feign it strong. Now, Ruthund has joined a league called the European Union-- out of character of what my ancestors intended Ruthund to be: a sacred place of peace and quiet, a garden for Ruthak’s children. But we must also mind a time when Ruthund had a different policy, a policy of proving our righteousness and might across the North. We have garnered the reputation among the other Realms and of ourselves that we are a people destined to work and die alone-- that we need only each other. But my siblings, I ask all of you to think on this well: Who exactly made the policy that many of us so dearly treasure today as a part of our own soul? Was it Queen Palhanuz when she expelled the Christians? Was it King Airnojuz when he planted the runestone at Rangentazav? Or was it really the Restoration that brought about this policy? If this be a sacred charge by those who succeed Ruthak, then where is the Librihaz making it part of the divine doctrines of our Temple?

I have poured over this Temple’s library, and I found none. This policy is sacred as our imaginations will it and no more. Indeed, it is written into our Basic Law that our Old Policy must be guarded, but did this Temple give it its seal? Did I, as the successor of Ruthak, give it my blessing? None of this has happened. Think well on it...

In this time of great change for Ruthund, I have been charged with the task of seeing that the Temple’s relationship with the Realm remains with the ever-changing times for these people. Much has happened in the last 20 years, but this year alone will be pivotal to the future of these people. I have always believed in our true religion, I love this Realm as my own, our people as my siblings, and our heritage our forefathers have given us as blessings. I, as a Ruthen, intend to guard them in whatever way I can from those who mean it harm.

But for long now, it was always understood the enemies were the Christians and those who would deign to collaborate with them. But in my search for the proper Spirit to inhabit the vessel of time, I have come to the realization that the true enemies of our religion are at times those who have sworn to protect it. What strikes at my heart more is they use me, a person they have never encountered, as their rallying banner. Of all things I have spoken with the Omeihiz the most, it is this. The Omeihuz that shall fill the vessel of this year’s life has indicated to me what must be done after the New-Year Flame is kindled. The Omeihuz for this year shall be Wesjaruz, the Omeihuz of the stirring dreams.

Ruthund has long been in slumber since our defeat and our age old humiliations, though it is one more dangerous: one of which we think we are conscious. This year, I see we are stirring from slumber and soon we will feel the last tendrils of sleep depart from us. It is time for Ruthund to reawaken and to experience the world and to shake off the drowsiness of the past. We must, for our own sake, build a new Ruthund off of the foundations of our forefathers and give our hands out to the world. I, of all Ruthens, shall take this first step and I have indicated my intentions to the Lord of State about my plans: I shall be abdicating as King after this midsummer without an heir. I intend for the position of Thuidon to be abolished and its office to be reform by this Temple.

A new light will shine across Ruthund, one that will be alien to all of our siblings. It will be strange to all of you. I will no longer be there to continue this path I have set the Temple for, it will be up to all of you to tend the flame that I will have kindled. Of all things I have asked this Temple to do, this will be by far the greatest task to undertake. But should you succeed in guiding our fellow Ruthens towards walking freely in the light, I wager history will see you all as the true heroes of the Ruthund and its people."

The King bowed as a bell signaled the curtains to close.
