REPEAL the Condemnation of the Coup in Icholasen Act II.
-
I must admit I am quite disappointed with what I have been hearing so far. Nothing but hypocrisy. Yes the democracy that is in the UNSR might be different from other European democracies. But it is not true that the elections were not free or fair. Nicoleizians could freely choose which candidates they want to vote for or if they want to run for office too. The elections were highly competitive and very fair with free debates and objective media. In one country there may be one party with different factions, in other country there may be one church with different factions that formally make up different parties. I do not see how the system in the former country can be labeled as any less free, fair or competitive then in the latter country.
However the most shocking to me is the reaction of councillor Bourgaize. You say that you will not vote for this act, because you are dissatisfied with the results of the Nicolezian elections and you believe they do not make sense? What political freedoms were given up by the people that decided to cast their vote for the TANKIES candidates? I think that the fact that they could and go cast their vote for their preferred candidates is a sign of democracy and of political freedoms rather then sing of giving those freedoms up. You may agree or disagree with who the people of Icholasen have voted for, but freedom is not measured with how many people voted for those you agree with. If you are making a claim that the results were falsified, despite the fact that TANKIES were certainly not clear winners of these election, I expect you to bring up some actual evidence, rather then your own personal beliefs.Václav Kohout
Councillor for Czech Slavia -
I do not support any of the factions in the UNSR in the same way that I do not support most of the parties of the European Union, Councillor Kohout; they are all complicit in maintaining a capitalist system. But let me rephrase my previous statement. We must acknowledge that the Nicoleizian people are largely liberals. They would not, for the most part, vote for any party that would support anything approaching socialism. Whatever they would vote for would be as close to capitalism, as horrid as it is, as possible. Remember that this is the country from which Prudence Crumplebottom and Eilidh Whiteford came.

"Yeah no."
Sir Augustus Barrington
The Empire of Inimicus
"All right, well, to elaborate my statement, the Empire of Inimicus cannot consider these so-called elections in the UNSR legitimate in any way. In Inimicus, we love free and fair elections, where voters can cast their ballots without fear of intimidation or manipulation, and er, certainly without risk of ballot box stuffing or completely unjustified immediate closures of key polling stations...
"The Act must stand. Its principles must stand. And we, as Europeans, must stand together, united, against the type of vile dictatorships now reigning in the UNSR and Neo-Venetia - and, I might as well add, Czech Slavia..."
Sir Augustus Barrington
The Empire of Inimicus -
I must ask again councillor Bourgaize, what are you basing your assumption that the people of Icholasen are largely liberals? Are you basing this on the election results from the United Dominions of Icholasen? Well that regime, which according to you represented the people in Icholasen better, since they are largely liberals, was for some reason overthrown by the very same people. Now allow me to provide some evidence rather then my own personal beliefs. Despite the fact that your claim that the people of Icholasen are largely liberals can't be proven, there is one fact that can be proven very easily, the vast majority of the people in Icholasen are workers.
Moving on, you claimed: "as far as I understand, the country had a terrible experience with socialism. While I myself am a socialist, I know very well what famine and economic failure can do to one's opinion of an ideology" well the liberal democratic regime of Icholasen which have been in power for 30 years failed to improve the economy of Icholasen to the level of other countries in the EU, I am quite certain that that could be described as "economic failure".
And regarding your last sentence, mrs. Eilidh Whiteford came from Icholasen, but in the last Premier Commissioner election was elected without the people of Icholasen having a say.
In conclusion, seeing as your reasons are founded on your beliefs rather then the material evidence, it seems to me, my dear friend, that you have mistaken Council with a Church.Václav Kohout
Councillor for Czech Slavia -
I think the European Council gave a very clear position towards this, and it will be repeated once again, and again, and again. Cllr. Kohout, those weren't free elections for one single reason. They didn't include any party that opposed to the current regime Nicoleizians are suffering: Communism. They didn't even vote for it in really free democratical election, where they never won. Again, this attempt to repeal this act will do nothing but getting our position clearer. I will not support the repeal of this act that allows the European Union to be a support for those Nicoleizians that don't believe in the ways the regime wants them to. And I, as an Europeist, believe in a stronger European Union where we defend those that are oppresed.
Donald D. Tusk
Councillor for Spain -
I would like to thank Eastern Haane's Councillor for his support of Free Icholasen, capitalism and monarchism ! I hear the UNSR is having a very difficult time being diplomatically isolated ! And you are facilitating the economic and social decline of one of your leftist brother-states ! Mr. Bourgaize you are one of the only people who could try and re-enter the UNSR into the EU and diplomatic life, and save them from this continued diplomatic isolation - but you choose not to. And so my sister, Queen Anastasia, the Free Nicoleizian capitalists and I thank you, Comrade, for keeping your communist brothers out of the EU and bolstering us against the cursed scourge of communism. I always thought leftist infighting over literally any petty detail was a myth, but right here in the Council I see the most left wing Councillors (the only 2 PEL councillors !) squabble over the worthiness of this election and of the UNSR. Surely it would be better to get rid of little old moi and replace yours truly with a leftist of any sort, rather than a monarchist capitalist. But you do you. Even with Martin's vote in support of this bill, it will not pass. The EU will never let the UNSR off the hook as long as I live and breathe. And please, @ all leftists, please keep up the infighting - it's very useful !
As for this general bill, I'd like to ask Vaclav to stop proposing this same piece of legislation as it will not pass. You and your PEL cronies need to get a life.
DUCHESS PENELOPE 'POPPY' CARLTON-ROMANOV
COUNCILLOR FOR THE UNITED DOMINIONS OF ICHOLASEN -
The UNSR is capitalist, and according to the government I represent, the so-called 'Free Icholasen' is illegitimate.
I do not wish to support illegitimate capitalist governments. The only reason why I have given my support to this act is because I believe it may cause a revolution in Icholasen - a democratic revolution - that will bring socialism and eventually communism to it.
Martin Bourgaize
Councillor for the People's Confederation of Eastern Haane -
My colleague from Eastern Haane has captured the essence of the act. The Coup in Icholasen was just that— a coup. Pretending that elections perpetuated by a domineering and totalist one-party state are legitimate is not only naive, but negligent in our duty to uphold the rule of law and the will of the people on this Council. The Nicoleizians are not suffering from Communism or any one ideology, they are suffering from a corrupt and dictatorial regime that seized power through force and transferred the reigns of government from a group elected by the masses to one insular unto themselves, that mocks the free nations of Europe by giving its citizens—and outsiders— an illusion of choice.
Fremet has seen this before. In the last revolution, the UNSR invaded my homeland and slaughtered millions of men, women, and children and laid waste to our island. This was the deed of evil men, drunk on power, seeking to subjugate the masses to further their own self-serving agenda. Those who have seized control in Icholasen in these recent months are not there for the benefits of the workers, carrying forth the torch of the people. Rather, they are a band of thugs that are willing to do whatever it takes to remain in power. The people of Icholasen, the government of Free Icholasen, and all those trapped in between are victims of a regime that lacks accountability, legitimacy, and a moral compass.
They must be opposed with all the means available to us if we are to ensure the freedom of all Europeans.
Charles Michel
Councillor for the Kingdom of Fremet -
"I am blatantly against this. This is much like the age old four attempts to get rid of the Cannabis Act. It is not happening."
