EUROPEAN COMMISSION ELECTIONS
NOMINATION OF CANDIDATES
It is time to elect the next European Commission. In these elections, the offices of the Premier Commissioner and the Commissioner for Internal Affairs will be up for election.
The offices of Premier Commissioner and Internal Affairs are subject to a four-month term.
As is traditional, I shall quote the words of our Returning Officer back in January 2011, who opened these nominations thus:
"These elections are supposed to give our member-states fair representation in this region - if candidates cannot take it upon themselves to be active, then I in particular, question their ability and willingness to take part in a body who must be active, accountable and able. I do not wish to threaten nor scare, but I want, for once, our European Commission to consist of Commissioners who are active and who play a part in the region both on and off this forum."

The National Assembly of the Republic of Istkalen has moved as to nominate the following candidate for the position of Premier Commissioner. It argues that it has authority to do so, as, per the Instrument of Surrender, it retains some level of political authority over Istkalen until surrender is completely effected, which is, as a result of continued unrest, especially in the armed forces, not entirely true as of now. Per our interpretation and that of the Interim Court of Justice, the declaration of the 26th of May applied only to the previous government of the Republic and not the Republic itself, as local governments were not abolished, while new elections were ordered to be held. Two candidates for the position nominated themselves; Ms. Simonnetta Sommaruga, a musician who had previously held office in municipal government, and Dr. Iskiris Koline, a former Minister of Finance, beloved and distinguished by her seemingly prescient economic advice. Dr. Iskiris Koline, in the end, was nominated by the Republic, by a vote 102-58, six votes over the majority needed to be nominated.
Candidate Name: Dr. Iskiris Koline
Home Nation: Istkalen
Office(s) sought: Premier Commissioner
Incumbent? (Y/N): N
Eurogroup Affiliation: NoneBiography: Dr. Iskiris Koline, born in 1945, received a doctorate in economics in 1974. She would become Minister of Finance for Istkalen between 1983 and 1985, 1992 and 1997, and 2000 and 2003, narrowly escaping a terrorist plot by the Social Democratic Party that would result in the deaths of most of her colleagues. She would continue to work as an advisor to the region of Līresz, before joining the Interim Democratic Government of Liris Veszal as an economic advisor, preparing a plan for the country's economic restoration - now, albeit modified, in place - after which she was arrested, in 2010. She would remain under house arrest until earlier this year, when she was sent to a labor camp under Meinl-Reisinger; upon the fall of the Meinl-Reisinger regime, on the 18th of April, she was promptly released, becoming an economic advisor to the Minister of Finance. She remained in this position until the 26th of May, upon which she was effectively fired, becoming an economic consultant for the municipality of Līresz

Candidate Name: Josephine Areai
Home Nation: Istkalen. I must disclose that the government of Istkalen, as well as all entities contained in the territory defined as Istkalen, condemns me in the harshest possible words, and is attempting to remove my citizenship, but cannot due to general confusion over how exactly I obtained it.
Office sought: Internal Affairs Commissioner
Incumbent: N
Eurogroup Affiliation: None
Biography: Ms. Areai was an important politician in the former country of Eastern Haane, and was responsible in temporarily stabilizing it during a period of emergency in which she gained certain additional powers, before fleeing to Bomballey, Copala City, due to unrest, where she would come into contact with an unrelated woman bearing her name, from which she would have to hide until recently. She would flee to Istkalen, alongside a small group of children and young adults, before disappearing and re-emerging with documents pertaining her citizenship, her name also in all legal records in Istkalen that would signify her possession of citizenship. No one knows how exactly she obtained her citizenship; presently, the state is working on attempting to revoke it as to expel her from the country so that she may stand trial for crimes against humanity in what remains of her home country; however, she has made use of it, using the safety it has provided her with as to become an accomplished author - her memoir, "The Voice of the People Rises," becoming a bestseller.
