EUROPEAN COUNCIL SPEAKER AND DEPUTY SPEAKER ELECTIONS 2021
VOTING PERIODThe voting period for the next Speaker and Deputy Speaker begins NOW and will end at 23:59 GMT on February 15th, 2021. Each member of the European Council may cast a vote for BOTH the Speaker and Deputy Speaker positions.

After securing an outright majority of votes in the first round, Councillor Charles Michel has been duly elected as Speaker of the European Council, and Councillor Donald Tusk has been duly elected as Deputy Speaker of the European Council.

I wanted to take the floor for just for a moment to thank those who trusted on me to your new Deputy Speaker. I'm facing this new job with excitement and also wishing to be a bridge between the Speaker and the Councillors here represented. As our countries' representatives, we have lots of things to work on, and I hope I can count with as many of you as possible to move forward a new era on the European legislation.
Thank you and I promise I will give my best to accomplish with the expectations of a Deputy Speaker.
